内容的には、プレスリー直系のアメリカの大衆的・習合的ロックンロールですね。

この紙ジャケット盤は、2008年デジタル・リマスタリングとボーナストラックつき。もうひとつ日本盤で出ている廉価盤は、リマスタリングなし、ボーナストラックもなし。
なので、この紙ジャケットは本当にただの紙ジャケットですが、でも、この紙ジャケット盤には値段分の価値があります。

　80年代を代表するロックバンド、紙ジャケットで登場。いやぁ〜懐かしい。あの頃来日公演が後楽園球場ってスケールだったもんね。それにしても、1,600円で再発されても食指は動かないのに、“紙ジャケ”となると血が騒いで大人買い♪げに恐ろしや、ノスタルジー（笑）

　演奏力がずば抜けて高いわけでもなく、イケメンが揃っているわけでもない（むしろどう見ても、むさいオヤジｗｗ）、ジャケ写からして場末のライブハウスかなんかがよく似合う、愛すべきＢ級バンド。アカペラ、ドゥーワップのテイストを織り交ぜた、オールドスクールの、ある種ノー天気なロックンロールを、曲によってはホーンセクションも交えて賑々しくも、ただひたむきに演奏しているだけなんだけど、なんか思わず顔もほころぶ、とにかく自分達の音楽を心底楽しんでいる雰囲気がダイレクトに伝わってきたバンドなんだよね。
　ただ改めて、カタログ順に聴き直したら、やはり前作から格段にスケールアップしていて、どのアルバムも同じじゃん（いい意味でだよ！)と思いこんでいたので、ちょっとビックリ。前作は若干古臭さを感じたんだけど、今作は堂々の横綱アルバムだね♪

　楽曲もキャッチャーな曲が多く、（1）（2）（4）（5）（7）とシングルヒットもズラリ。ボートラはデモテイク2曲に、定評あるライブ3曲。歓声が“黄色い”のにも驚かされたし（笑）、レコードはポップでも、ライブは当たり前のようにハードだってことも思い出したなぁ。こんなバンドがバカ売れしていたなんて、今思えば奇跡のような時代だよね。まぁ彼らには、スタジアムも、ライブハウスも、昔も今も同じなんだろうけどさ。

ヒューイ・ルイス&ザ・ニュースと言えば、
映画バック・トゥ・ザ・フューチャーのテーマ「パワー・オブ・ラヴ」が有名で、
８０’ｓコンピの常連となっていますが、彼らはこの一曲だけではないのですよ！！
それを証明するのが、この傑作SPORTSです。
数々のヒットナンバーを収録し、キラキラ明るい８０年代をリードするパワーポップ全開。
特に大好きなのが「いつも夢みて」なのです。
この曲も彼らを代表する名曲なので、次の８０’ｓコンピには収録して欲しいものです。
さて、この紙ジャケ盤には、５曲ものボートラ収録で嬉しい限りです。
「いつも夢見て」のライブテイクも収録されてますね！！
