カリフォルニア州ロサンゼルス生まれ。87年、Dr.Dre、Easy-E、MC Ren等と共に最凶ラップグループN.W.A.を結成しアルバムデビュー。その後様々な確執からソロへと転向する。90年にアルバム『AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted』で待望のソロデビュー(ビルボード#19/R&B/Hip-Hop #6)。91年に映画『Boyz n the Hood』で銀幕デビューし俳優としてのキャリアをスタートさせる。『Friday』(‘95)、『Three Kings』(‘99)、『Barbershop』(‘02)などシリアスものからコメディーまで幅広く演じた。以降2006年までにリリースされた2nd~7thソロアルバムはビルボードチャートでの上位を独占。WC、Mack 10とのユニットWestside Connectionでもアルバムを2作リリースし、それぞれゴールドアルバム、プラチナアルバムを受賞している。
