Ray LaMontagneのヴォーカルはかなり魅力的である。
少しハイトーンでハスキーでいてソウルフルなその声に、魅了されずにはいられない。
語りかけるような歌声に乗せ、ブルージな曲からカントリー風な曲まで見事に歌い上げてゆく作品に仕上がっている。
久しぶりに素晴らしいシンガーに出合えた。
まずは、＃１のさり気ない女性コーラースとメロディーに誘われるままに彼の世界へ、そして最後のナンバー＃１０の繊細で美しい旋律にドップリと浸れればもう言葉はありません。

ニューハンプシャーのＳＳＷのサード。
日本ではイマイチ認知度が低くて残念だが、アメリカではBob DylanやNora Jonesら大物との仕事で注目されている気鋭の新人。
デビューアルバムとは信じられないほど完成度の高い楽曲と素朴でシンプルながら懐の深い音楽性で多くのリスナーを驚かせ、セカンドは更にＲ＆Ｂへの愛着を感じさせる名作だった。
本作もEthan Jonesプロデュースであり、大きな変化は感じられないものの、音楽性は相当広がっている。
アコースティック・ソウル、ブルース、ジャズ、カントリー、ノーザン・ソウル等々、様々なスタイルを披露している。
ゆったりと、音数の少ない控え目なサウンドなのに、これほどのルーツの背景を感じさせるRayの才能に改めて驚かさせる。
音楽に対して誠実で実直な男ならではのアルバム。

出だしの60年代にトリップしたかのようなバンド・サウンドに仰天。まちがえてオーティス・レディングのレコードをかけたのかと思いました。今まではほとんど弾き語りでしたが、今回は、バンド・サンドっぽい広がりも、ルーツ・ミュージック全般への広がりもあって、開放的です。一人でギターをかき鳴らしているイメージではありません。
日本盤の発売予定はないようですが、でも、輸入盤のブックレットに歌詞は印刷されています。
