Acrobat6,7をお使いの方にお勧め。
Professionalは、Standardに比べて、
「ISO規格であるPDF/A、PDF/E、およびPDF/Xへの準拠を検証」
の機能がついている。

そのほか、Professionalについている機能で仕事で使いそうなのは、
「Autodesk AutoCAD、Microsoft Visio、Microsoft Projectファイルを、VisioおよびAutoCADのレイヤー、Visioのオブジェクトデータを保持したまま、ワンクリックの簡単操作でPDFに変換」という機能。
「PDFファイルにFLVやH.264ビデオを挿入し、 Adobe AcrobatやAdobe Readerで直接再生」
これらの機能を使わないのであれば、Standardでよいかもしれない。

その他、Professionalで用意している次の機能は使う予定はない。
「特定のテキストやイラストを含む機密情報を、編集ツールを使用して永久に削除」
「Adobe Reader（バージョン8以降）ユーザに電子署名の使用権限を付与 」
「２つの異なるバージョンのPDF文書を比較し、相違点を強調表示」
「Adobe LiveCycleTM Designer ES（同梱）を使用して、インタラクティブなXMLフォームを作成」
「ハイエンドな印刷物の制作やデジタルパブリッシング用に、PDFファイルのプレビュー、プリフライト、修正、準備」

2008年7月11日リリース。アクロバットのフォーマット、PDFは1993年にバージョン1.0でスタートしたが、今回のバージョン1.7で2008年7月ISO32000-1として正式に『標準化』された。これは正にPDFというフォーマットが完成したのと同時に、たとえアドビが破綻したとしてもこのフォーマットは未来永劫、保護され残される事になったというある意味歴史的な出来事だったと思う。

それ以外にも今回のバージョン『9』は今までの集大成的な部分が多くある。もう一つの特筆すべき特徴は『acrobat.com』の登場だと思う。これは自社サーバがインターネット上に存在しない小さな会社にとっては非常に有効なツールだ。しかも片方のユーザにアドビIDがあれば、もう片方のユーザはアドビIDが無くてもリアルタイム・コラボレーションに参加できる。非常に使える機能だ。

この一つ上のバージョンである『Pro Extended』ではe-ラーニング素材を自社で作る機能が付加されているが、この機能が必要な企業は限られている気がする。Mac版ProにはLive Cycle Designerの機能が無く(同じ値段などありえない)、圧倒的に導入価値があるのはこのWin版Proだと思う。それ以外にも文書の比較・修正のあった2文書間の変更箇所をすばやく確認する機能など極めて使えると思う。
