eastern youth初となるベストアルバム。の、後編。２０００年以降の進化＆深化していく
イースタンの変化を楽しめる一枚。

イースタンは「孤立無援の花」〜「感受性応答セヨ」までの流れで
「日本語ロック」という表現を極めた感じがあった。そこからどういう風な流れに向かうのか？
と個人的には思っていたが既にこれ以上ないくらい型が完成されているバンドなので
ひたすら確立した表現を広げたり、突き詰めたりするという方向性を打ち出していた、と感じる。
　　「変わらない」ということ。それがこの一枚を通して聴いたときに一番感じたことである。
変わることがバンドに活力をもたらすこともあれば、変わらない力強さがバンドの活力になることもある。
前者に比べれば後者のほうが明らかに困難だろう。同じ方向性で違う良さというのは難しい。
しかしイースタンはそれをやってのけてしまった。（それはこのベストを聴けば判ると思います）
ここまで振れがない、揺ぎ無いバンドは珍しい。改めてイースタンって偉大だなあ、と思えた。

どの曲も体が反応してしまう。勢いだけでなく、リズム隊を最大限に活かしたアンサンブルの応酬には
イースタンの音楽は時代を選ばぬ良さがある、ということを感じさせてくれた。
　前半のベストに比べると、割と重厚感を増してきた感のあるイースタンだが、
このアルバムもまた、聴きやすい構成になっていると思う。具体的にいうと「東京快晴摂氏零度」と「炎上する幸福」のあたりとか凄い気持ちよかった！
どっしりした曲ばかりではなく、きちんとイースタンの原点であると思われる「疾走感」や「焦燥感」にあふれた楽曲もきちんと混ぜ込んでいる。
ていうか音の密度が凄い。こればっかりは聴いて貰わないと判らないが、お腹一杯になる感じ。
少しクサイ言い方をすると胸がいっぱいになった。

どの曲も好きだが敢えていうと「世界は割れ響く耳鳴りのようだ」。
シングルにもなった曲だが、ちょうど例のテロ事件があった直後で、時代性ともリンクしてたことを思い出した。
「自由」のバキッとしつつも柔軟なリズムも好きだし、「街はふるさと」のサビのメロディーもなんか泣きそうになる。
「３６５歩のブルース」もやばい。

「我々は一体、何の為に涙の唄を繰り返すのか」（３６５歩のブルース）

痛みすら伴うような、全身全霊の叫び。日本語のロックが好きなら一度は聴いてみて欲しい。
eastern youth、ありがとう。これからも聴き続けます。

｢感受性応答セヨ｣だけ持っていて、ほかのも欲しいなと思っていたのだが、
ベストがあるならちょうどいいじゃん、的な軽い気持ちで買ってしまった。
もう、半端じゃない。ヒステリックに泣き叫ぶギターとヴォーカル、
うねりまくるベース、抜群のグルーヴとパワーのドラム。
そして、まるで首を絞められるような魂を感じる詞とメロディ。
日本のロックンロールでここまで｢和｣を感じさせる
バンドが他にどれほどいるだろうか？
こんなことなら、はじめからアルバムを全部そろえるべきだった。
結局、その後まとめて他のアルバムも買ってしまった…。

ずっとイースタンを聴き続けてきましたがベスト盤を聴くと曲ごとに当時の情景が思い浮かびますね。曲、詞が秀逸なのは言うまでもありませんが、なにもここまでというくらいのエモーショナルな吉野氏の声にやられてしまいます。あとは実際にライブを観るとその凄さというのが明確にわかります。三人の飄々とした、たたずまいから発せられる音楽に心を揺さぶられると思いますよ。
