1981年に発表された、JAPANの実質的に最後のアルバム。ファーストアルバムが出てからこの５枚目までのたった４年で、ここまで音楽的到達があったなんて、本当にファン冥利につきた作品。「Talking Drum」という曲は本当にドラムがしゃべってるみたいでMickのフレットレスベースとの絡みが最高だし、「Canton」は中国を思わせるフレーズをきちんと自分達のものに消化した素晴らしいインスト曲になってます。

バンド解散は本当に惜しかったけど、このアルバムの次を生み出すには、急激に成長したメンバー各自の音楽の方向性をひとつにする難しさをどう乗り越えられたか。それを考えると、この作品を最後に解散して良かっんだと思います。

ファンクなダイナミズム、美意識、不気味、アイディア、すべてがつまっています。Japanは下手に(いまでいう)ビジュアル系ぎみにスタートしてしまったのが敗因というか、それがここまでみごとに音楽性の高みに登りつめたことが実に素晴らしいです。ミックの納豆的なベース、リチャード・バルビエリの情念のSequencial Circuit / Prophet 5クロスモジュレーション、スティーブのドラム、そして何よりもデヴィッドのヴォーカルと楽曲、まさに金字塔。

バンドの芸術的なピークを示すアルバム。ファンクロックからスタートして独自の境地に到達したのを明示している。それは＝コマーシャルな妥協はあまりしていなくて、自分達の進みたい方向に進んだ彼等の勇気の勝利である。シンセサイザーの使用方法はあくまで『アブストラクト』な使い方である。このアルバムはやはり他に似たタイプのものがなかったために相当にファンを混乱させたに違いない。だがしかしこのアルバムの提示している音楽はだれにも代替不可能なのである。
デビッドシルビアンのピークとも言える。１０点中１０点
