確かに最初に聞いたときは、おそらく曲順を入れ替えてもわからないだろうと思ったくらい単調に聞こえましたし、２度と通して聞くことはないだろうなというくらい、印象の薄いものでしたが、２度目からはよくできた音にさすがJudas Priestと感心させられ、以後聞くたびにますます魅力のとりこになるといった感じの作品です。
単調に聞こえたのも統一感の表れと思えるくらい今でははまっています。１曲１曲が魅力的という点ではQueensrycheやDream Theaterのコンセプト作に劣るのですが、統一感を保ちながら、曲それぞれに聴きどころがあり、それぞれに美しさを感じます。確かにコンセプトアルバムというよりはロックオペラといったほうが適当な印象を受けます。
初心者にはPainkillerやDefenders of the Faith の方を進めますし、私もさすがにJudas Priestの中で１枚選ぶとしたら「この作品！」ということにはならないと思いますが、これはこれでJudas Priest サウンドの一つの到達点でしょう。

イギリスのメタルゴッド、ジューダス・プリーストのアルバム。2008作
ロブ・ハルフォードが復帰しての2作目となる本作は、ノストラダムスの生涯をテーマにした
CD2枚組の大作となった。いったい、何故今頃ノストラダムスなのかはともかく、
サウンドの方は、往年のプリーストとは雰囲気を異にした、重厚なドラマ性で聴かせる作風だ。
ミドルテンポ主体の楽曲は攻撃性よりも、じっくりとストーリーを聴かせるような雰囲気で
ハルフォードのヴォーカルも甲高いシャウトではなく、中音域を中心として歌っている。
ックに効果的にシンセを使用していることで、ロックオペラ的な美しさが全体を包み、
ここぞと聴かせるツインギターの掛け合いもさすがといったところ。
一聴してのインパクトは弱いかもしれないが、ドラマに浸るように鑑賞すれば、
ある意味ジューダスらしからぬ壮大な100分間を、じっくりと楽しめるだろう。

聞き始めはつまらなく思ったが聞くごとに大好きになっていく。
８０年メタルのようなスピード感あるものを本当は求めていたのだが
今回は全くいい意味で裏切られた内容。
２００６年にアイアンメイデンニューアルバムを発売したときと同じ印象だ。
ブリティッシュメタル最高って感じですね。
