タイトル画面を放置していると流れる、某ハ〇ス食品アニメを連想させるOPアニメーションが有りますが、実際プレイすると内容とのギャップに衝撃を受けました。流石は天外魔境。シナリオは重く暗いです。今までこのシリーズをプレイしたことがない方にはキツ目かもしれませんが、つまらなくはないと思います。
私はZEROしかやった事がなかったので、シナリオに衝撃を受けました。ただ、EDは微妙です。それを据えても面白いゲームだと思います。

※当方が持ってるのは通常版（非ベスト）ですが、今現在流通してるのはコチラだろうと思ったのでこちらに書きました。

通称『天外魔境IV』とも言えるこの作品のオリジナルは、1997年1月14日リリースのセガサターン版です。
本PSP版では、当時都合でカットされてしまった一部シナリオの加筆、そしてOPムービーの新規書き起こし等。
加えて、都合でカットせざるを得ない一部セリフの再アフレコと、それに伴って他界されてしまったオリジナル版キャストの一部代役・・・等々。

基本的には、セガサターン版を忠実にそのままPSPに落とし込んだ秀逸な移植だと思います。
オリジナルが好きだった方は、間違いなく満足出来る仕上がりです(^^！

舞台はアメリカ。
アラスカに始まりニューヨークまで、ストーリーを進行させていく事でアメリカ全土を巡るという壮大な世界観！
笹川敏幸先生によるバラエティ豊かで極上なBGM群と歌の数々が、それらと上手く融合してます(^^！

物語の雰囲気は確かに暗くて、ちょっと恐い部分もあります。
ただその事が、この作品をより深いモノにしているのも事実です。
特に「人間の欲」とか「命」とか・・・凄く考えさせられる部分があり、初プレイから十数年経ってる今でも、この作品は深く心に残ってますね。
色々なRPGをやってますが、そのような感情を抱いてしまった作品は殆ど無いような気もします。
世界観は全く違うんですが、『グランディアII』ともどこか共通したモノを感じます。

「楽しいだけがRPGじゃない」

という事を、この作品からは教わりました。
自分、或いは「人間という存在」について今一度考えたい方には強くお奨めです。

SEGAハードで唯一の天外魔境のため、舞台もアメリカ開拓時代で他の天外シリーズては毛色は違いますが、間違いなく名作だと思います。サターンでは二枚組で容量は勿論ストーリーも涙ありで秀逸です。サターン最高のRPGだと思います。
