明らかな勝負作だと思う。STAN約１年半強ぶりのニュー・アルバム。
まず既存の楽曲を入れているところ、そして１１曲というSTANにしては多めの曲数、そしてタイトルがまんま「ROCK」。
しかもインタビューによると最初は「ROCK IN JAPAN」にしようと思ってたらしい。不敵！
とても抜けが良く、切れのいい作品に仕上がった。またも傑作。

個人的にSTANはとにかくメロディがいいバンドだと思ってる。とにかくKYGこと西井鏡悟のソングライティングは
同年代のバンドたちと比べても格段にメロディセンスが高い。
それに加えて、重厚かつポップなバンドのグルーヴがトッピングされる。　まさに鉄壁のロック・バンドである。
　そこに、KYG独特のつかみどころのあるような、ないような詞が乗っかるのだが今作は
そもそもメロディの時点で突き抜けたというか、ポップ度が高いものが多いので
それにつられる様ににして、実にストレートな詞の世界が広がっている。
前作「I Know」にもストレートな楽曲が混ざっていたが、今作はそれ以上。
そして否定的な部分を描きながらも、肯定的な方向性に進むような内容が多い。　地に足がついてる感じ。
こういう陽性なら、大歓迎だ。実際、違和感はない。

そして前述のメロディも今作は今まで以上にずば抜けてキャッチーである。
もちろん「THE FIRE」や「S.T.An」のようならしさ溢れる、尖ったナンバーもあるが
基本的には「これぞSTAN！」というような黄金節がこのアルバムの全体を占めている。
　STANのアルバムには必ず決定的なキラーチューンが入っているが今回は「時の砂」だろう。
非常に流麗なメロディをごく自然に轟音サウンドに絡ませているし、詞のシンプルさも際立っている。
その他にも王道のSTANという感じの「アメジスト」、肉欲を純粋なものとして歌う「SEA SIDE SEX」、
応援歌的なエッセンスも含む「タイガーアイ」と雑多性にも富んでいる。
STANのイメージを保ちつつ、新鮮さも感じられる信頼できる一枚に仕上がった。

ロックが好きな人は、一度でいいからSTANを聴いてみて欲しい。
「S.T.An」の不敵っぷりも、「時の砂」の美しさも、「弱い男」の批評性も同じくらい素晴らしい。
今回こそは！

STANというバンドのCDは何枚か聴いたことがあり、少し自分には合わないかなと思っていましたが、このアルバムを一度聴いてから、STANが大好きになり、毎日のように聴いています。メロディが頭のなかから離れません。比べるのもおかしいかもしれませんが、そこらへんのJ-POPバンドのような薄っぺらい作品ではないのでいくら聴いても飽きません。歌詞、メロディ、センスどれをとっても他のバンドでは真似できないようなSTANだけの曲に仕上がっています。傑作です。このアルバムを買って後悔する人はいないと思うので、購入を強くおすすめします。
