   クロスオーヴァーのスーパースター・ヴォーカリスト、サラ・ブライトマンが新世紀を意識して発売したアルバムが本盤。1999年に出した前作『エデン』で見せた彼女独特の音楽センスにさらに磨きがかかっている。
   前作と同様の、タイトルから連想されるイメージに基づくコンセプトアルバムになっていて、今回は月の魔力をイメージした曲が集められている（ジャケットのサラ・ブライトマンは、まさに新世紀の「真夏の夜の夢」のティターニアのようだ）。
   このおしゃれでテーマ性のある音楽の旅は、現代的なシンセポップ<12>だったり、ヴィンテージもののジャズスタンダードでビリー・ホリディのけだるいムードたっぷりの曲<14>だったり、ハイオペラ調のアルバムタイトル曲<1>（ドヴォルザークのファンタジーオペラ「Rusalka」からの"Song of the Moon"を荘厳にしたもの）だったりさまざまだ。ほかにも、バッハ、ヘンデル、ラフマニノフの華やかで変化に富んだメロディーをあちこちで取り入れたりしている。 <4>には、ベートーベンの交響曲第7番のゆるやかなモチーフまで入っている。
   全体をとおして、プロデューサーのフランク・ピーターソンはブライトマンのつややかで繊細な声を華麗な音の装飾で包みこもうとしたようだ。このアルバムに文句をつける人がいるとしたら、このプロデュースのせいでどんなスタイルの曲も同じように聞こえてしまうと言うかもしれない。しかし、ブライトマンがあやつる天使の魔法は少しも色あせることなく光を放ち続けている。（Thomas May, Amazon.com）

今作は「月」をテーマにしたコンセプトアルバムだそうです。スローで雄大なイメージの曲でまとめられていて、タイトルにぴったりだと思います。アラビアンテイストも感じられて、サハラ砂漠の満月の夜が頭に思い浮かんできました。地平線すれすれに低くうかぶ満月、その前をラクダのシルエットがいくつも横切っていく・・・そんなイメージが頭にうかんできました。すでに新作「ハーレム」を持ってたので聞き比べてみましたが、ポップス寄りのサラももちろん良いですが、こういったスケール感の要求される曲の方が、サラの澄んだソプラノがいかんなく発揮されてる気がします。興味を持った方にはおすすめの一枚です。

Sarahの優しく透きとおる声があなたの疲れた心を癒してくれることと思います。どの曲もいいですが、SarahバージョンのScarborough FairとHere With Meが私のお気に入りです。

　実はこのCD、ボーナストラックが存在します。15曲の前半が終わってもそのまま再生しましょう。（笑）

　A Whiter Shade of Pale と Here With Me が好みです。
