Album Details

Japanese two CD pressing of the 2008 album from the UK indie act features bonus tracks plus a bonus disc containing five tracks exclusive to this release. Strength In Numbers, the bands third album, was recorded in late 2007 by uber producers Flood (Killers / U2) and Paul Hartnoll (ex Orbital). The new material has been road tested to an incredible response on the bands Four Cities tour, which sees them returning to play the same cities in consecutive months: each time in a bigger venue, rekindling the adulation that followed their historic Blackpool Empress Ballroom show and multiple sold out nights at Brixton Academy. Universal.

オリジナリティと統合性

１stアルバムでオリジナリティを発揮したバンドやグループは、
２nd以降重い十字架を背負う運命が待っています。
荒いまま、個性や勢いを残すのか？個性を薄めて、いろんなタイプの曲を揃えるのか？

どうやらＴｈｅ　Ｍｕｓｉｃは欲張りで
自分たちのグルーブを残したまま、いろんな音楽の要素を
強引に、サラリとブチ込んできました。
何処か不安定な展開ですが、なんとも言えないオリジナリティを形成しています。
しかもメンバーが全員平等な関係みたいで、全パートの音がきっちり４等分されてます。

また、音の配置も面白く、ヘッドフォンで聴く事をお試し下さい。
きっと未完成のモンスターの息遣いが、感じ取れると思います。

ファーストの頃のグルーヴはなくなった。と言い切ったとしても、名作と呼べるアルバムでしょう。
はっきり言ってファーストの頃とはグルーヴの質が変わってしまいましたが(ていうかテンションが低くなった?)、やっぱりthe musicはやってくれる。良い意味で年をとった、ロックの魅せ方を習得した結果でしょう。六曲目なんかは昔のmusicにありそうでなかったシンプルでファンキーなギターリフを基調とした曲。アークティック好き、ストライプス好きのツボにはまりそうなナンバー。思わず唸ってしまったのは三曲目。何と言ってもボーカルの声である。セカンドで言うところのopen your eyesのようなバラード。前作の荒っぽさは消えたセクシーな一曲だ。
the musicはこのアルバムで前作の失敗からの壁を乗り越えるだろう。このままイギリスのトップバンドに返り咲ければファンとしてそれ以上望ましい事はない。早く大人になったmusicを生で見てみたいものだ。

思いのほか聴きこめる作品に仕上げてきたな、というのが第一印象。
細部まで丁寧に作りこまれ、楽器のように使われてたボーカルがきちんと歌っているので曲の輪郭が以前よりはっきりしてスッと聴けます。
その分１stの頃のような勢い一発勝負みたいな感じはもうないので、別のバンドぐらいに思った方がいいかも。上の感想を否定的にとってしまう人にはあまりオススメ出来ません。
とりあえず解散しないでくれて良かった・・・。
