前作も買いました。
最近のＲ＆Ｂにしては耳に馴染みやすく、
ある意味「正統派Ｒ＆Ｂ」アーティストだと思います。
８０年代の洋楽が大好きな私は満足しています。
ここ何年かはＲ＆Ｂといっても枝葉が沢山分かれて「開拓」するのが難しいと感じていたのですが、Ｎｅ-Ｙｏの登場でホッとした記憶があります。
みなさんも是非一度聴かれてみては？

創作アイディアが枯渇しないのかと心配になるほどコンスタントに新作をリリースするNe-Yo。しかもどのアルバムも完成度が高いから驚きだ。しかし，今回はもう一つの「驚き」が。アルバム全般を通してポップになったのである。もともとアコースティックでメロウなバラードが多かっただけに「黒っぽさ」を余り感じさせなかった人だが，それにしても今回は大胆。結果は・・・というと，もちろん「成功」。
アルバムは乾いたビートで幕を開ける。疾走感のあるアップテンポ「Closer」だ。流麗でメロウなアコースティック・ギターの起用は彼らしいが，シリアスでスリリングな展開がこれまでの作風にはない斬新さ。弾けるビートとファルセット・コーラスなども多用したクールしたサウンドの組み合わせが絶妙な「Nobody」は，マイケル・ジャクソンの絶頂期を思わせるような爽快なナンバー。同じアップテンポでも「Single」はいかにもNe-Yoらしいナンバー。メロウで郷愁を誘うシンセサイザー・サウンド，ピュアで伸びやかなヴォーカルが胸に染みる。特にエンディングのピアノ・ソロは泣ける。中盤では「So You　Can Cry」が秀逸。アコースティック・ギターの柔らかな音色と,そよ風のようにさわやかなコーラスが胸に染みる。流麗で透明感のあるピアノ・フレーズをループしたピュアな「Why Does She Stay」，硬質なビートとは裏腹に感傷的なメロディーの「Fade Into The Background」もいい。終盤では，映画のテーマ曲になりそうなぐらいドラマテッィクな「Stop This World」や，ちょっとブルージーなピアノが小粋な「What’s The Matter」などロッカ・バラード風のナンバーも。
今回の路線変更は，賛否両論あるだろうが，人の心をつかむGood Musicであることには変わりはないわけで，やっぱり凄いわ，この人。

インマイオウンワーズ、ビコーズオブユーにつぐ３rdアルバム。
今回のアルバム、前までの曲を求めている人にとっては「あれ？」って感じではないだろうか
例えば、ファーストシングル「クローサー」は、R&Bとハウスビートを融合させたNe-yoにとって新境地となる楽曲である。

彼はインタビューの一説でこんなことを言ったらしい「現在のR&Bのシーンに対してうんざりしている」、「だから俺は、新作を通してお手本を示そうとしてるだけさ」と。
純粋なR&B、POP、中にはビートルズのような音楽まで・・・

R&Bという単体でのジャンルにカテゴライズできない３rdのアルバムは、音楽業界に新しい方向性を示そうとしていて、普遍的でなおかつ、すばらしい楽曲で溢れている。
