2008 release from the Finnish Death Metal outfit. Given Moonsorrow's truly panoramic musical vision, it's perhaps not surprising that the band themselves are choosing to classify this release as an EP: however, at a very generous 68 minutes in length, it's clearly a great deal more than that! This five-track release features a hugely impressive mix of old and new material, along with a couple of intriguing covers including the Metallica classic `For Whom The Bell Tolls'. Spinefarm.

収録時間が68分を超えると言う意味不明なEP(バンド側がそう扱っているらしい)。 新譜のアルバムでは無いが、だからと言ってナメてもらっては困る。
アモルフィスの初代Voであったトミ・コイヴサーリがデス声でゲスト参加してる一曲目"TULIMYRSKY"は30分近くあるんだが、その曲が素晴らしい。曲途中に挿入された壮大なオーケストレーションは名作3rdを思い起こさせる。
5thは硬派な感じだったが、このEPでは初期ムーンソロウのファンタジーで勇壮な所が戻ってきてるのを強く感じた。ただ戻るだけでなく、現在の路線との完全融合した感がある。コレは嬉しく思うし、僕はヴァイキングメタルはこう(臭く)あるべきだと思う。それに次作を強く期待する事ができるようになった。

フィンランドのヴァイキングメタルグループMOONSORROWの５曲入りＥＰ。買ってみて気がついたのがジャケットのデザインがかなりチープであったこと。辺境ヴァイキングメタルらしいと言えば納得である。そんなチープなデザインとは裏腹の様相を呈しているのが、本作の楽曲である。１曲目が約３０分の超大作。２曲目がMETALLICAのカバー『FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS』、３、４曲目が過去のデモ音源のリ・レコーディング。ラスト５曲目がMERCILESSのカバー『BACK TO NORTH』という構成だ。オリジナル曲である１、３、４曲目はどれもアグレッシブで特に３、４曲目については、トレモロリフやブラストビートを多用したプリミティブなブラックメタルといった装いで、シンセの使い方など初期ディム・ボガーやエンペラーに近い雰囲気を感じる事が出来、彼らの出自が分かるナンバーだ。
そして、本作の本来の目玉である１曲目のタイトルトラック『TULIMYRSKY』についてだが、９つの章からなる一大叙事詩となっているようで、プレイボタンを押してからしばらくは、静かな鳥のさえずりと潮騒の音が続き、まさにジャケットの状況のとおりでそこから、お約束の如きブラストビートを含む爆走パートへと突入する。そして所々で勇壮なクワイアやアコースティックな響きが挿入されていたりして、聴き手を飽きさせない作風となっており、長尺さを全くかんじさせないどころか、グイグイと引き込まれていく素晴らしい楽曲となっている。
５曲で６０分オーバーという、通常この手の音楽のリスナーではない人には抵抗を感じさせるきらいはあるかもしれないが、ヴァイキングメタルファンには充分満足できるヴォリュームであることは間違いないだろう。

フィンランドのヴァイキングメタルバンド、ムーンソロウのミニアルバム。2008作
前作は大曲2曲という構成の力作だったが、今作のタイトル曲も30分の長曲で、
物語的な語りから始まり、ブラックメタル的に疾走を開始。絶叫するヴォーカルと
甘すぎない土着フレーズを奏でるギターが絡み、武骨で暴虐、そしてドラマティックな
ヴァイキングメタルが展開する。2曲目はMETALLICAの“For Whom The Bell Tolls”の
ヴァイキングバージョンで、これが長尺ながら三連リズムのアレンジがなかなかハマっている。
3、4曲目は過去のデモの新録で、ヴァイキングというよりはシンフォブラック的な疾走曲。
5曲目はスウェーデンのデスメタルバンド、MERCILESSのカヴァー。マニアックなところをついている。
EPといっても全5曲で68分の長さというのが、いかにもこのバンドらしい（笑）
