"川嶋あい"として1stシングルをリリースしてから約5年
初めて19枚ミニアルバムを作ってからはもう6年程になります
今から書くのはあくまで5年近く見守ってきたファンからの意見です

このSingle Bestには今までだしたシングル曲
+α（配信限定曲+知る人ぞ知る幻の名曲「真夜中の手紙」の完成版「光」）
10曲+10曲のCD2枚組で、全20曲が収録されます（詳細はトピックに…）
ちなみに名曲「天使たちのメロディー」、待望の「１秒の光」はアレンジ・歌唱を新録
「12個の季節」はボーカルを新録、「絶望と希望」は楽器がプラスされてます
DVDにはライブドキュメンタリー映像、蔵出しライブ映像などが収録され、
CD2枚組+DVDの3枚組となります

まずやはり、Singleを集めただけあり、大きな存在感を持つ楽曲が多いです
アップテンポでノリノリ系「見えない翼」「My LOVE」から
ナチュラルで爽快な「525ページ」「絶望と希望」「君に・・・・・」
名曲と呼べるバラード「天使たちのメロディー」「大切な約束」などバラエティ豊富、
"川嶋あい"の楽曲を知らない人にも優しい内容となっています

ただ個人的にはやはり、川嶋あいの魅力はカップリング・ミニアルバムだと思ってます
もしこのSingle Bestで少しでも川嶋に興味がでた人は、2〜6thミニアルバム
もしくは同時発売されるCoupling Bestも聴いてみて下さい
「雨になる」「流れ星」「シャングリラ」「空色のアルバム」「時雨」…
このアルバムに収録されていない名曲は、まだまだあります
今回の２枚のベストが、川嶋のすべてではありません


もう5年のような気もしますが、まだ5年です
このBestはあくまで１つの通過点
これからも雪に咲く花のように頑張って欲しいです

購入しました、川嶋にしては非常にアートワークに凝っています
歌詞カードはまるで写真集！気合が相当入ってます
DVDもドキュメンタリー30分、セルフコメンタリーは10分ちょい
ライブはファン必見の卒業ライブから、DVD化されていない12個の歌ツアー
最新のクリスマス、誕生日ライブまで約１時間ぶん収録されています

ファンはこの５年間の軌跡を噛み締めるため
ファンじゃない人は川嶋を知る１ページのために
ベスト、というＣＤとして、十分な役割を果たしたものだと思いました

I WiSHの「明日への扉」を初めて聴いたとき、「ai」というヴォーカリストの透明感のある、しかし、どこか切なくて、胸が苦しくなるような歌声に心奪われる思いがしたが、残念ながら、「川嶋あい」としての活動をする中で、それらの多くを失ってしまったようだ。

しかし、考えてみると、10代の歌声を維持できるわけはなく、また、歌手として歌い続けていけば、必然的に、声質は落ち着いてきてしまうわけで、私のように、I WiSH時代の印象が強い人が、たまたまこのアルバムを見かけ、「そういえば最近どうしてるのかな」的な気軽な気持ちでこのアルバムを購入した場合、「ai」ではなく、「川嶋あい」としての彼女を受け入れられるか否かが重要になるだろう。

ちなみに、私自身は彼女の声質の変化に戸惑っているところへ、アップテンポな曲の存在に追い討ちをかけられ(笑)、しばらくは馴染めなかったものの、数回聴いているうちに、「川嶋あい」の魅力にも気付き始めている、そんな感じだ。

そして、そんな私が、安心して彼女の言葉に耳を傾けることが出来るのは、彼女がシンガーソングライターであり、その言葉が、彼女自身から出てきたものであるからだろう。

本作では、彼女が1曲毎にコメントを寄せている他、初回盤特典のＤＶＤには、I WiSHのaiが自分であると告白するシーンに始まり、（大雑把ではあるものの）現在の彼女に至るまでの軌跡を感じることが出来る映像が収録されているので、I WiSH時代からのブランクが長い方ほど、ＤＶＤ付の本商品をお薦めしたい。

かなり主観的な意見になってしまいますが川嶋あいのシンガーソングライターとしての実力は日本ではトップクラスだと思います。
深みのある歌詞、抜群のメロディーセンス、ボーカルの表現力、そして透明感のある声、すべてが魅力的であり、非常にレベルが高い。

ただ、そんな才能あるアーティストを売り出す戦略も、資金も残念ながら所属事務所、レコード会社が持ちあわせていないせいで、彼女は日本のポップシーンにおいて、正当な評価を得られていないと思います。路上ライブ1000回達成以後の安易なバラエティー番組への進出や、大々的、かつ執拗なまでの過去の告白は、一般リスナーに良いイメージは与えなかったでしょう。

また最大のチャンスであった「あいのり」の主題歌に「My Love」というあまりにも売れ線狙い、かつ深みのない曲が使用されてしまったことでその程度の曲を歌ってるアーティストだという印象を与えてしまった気がします。
今回のベスト盤によって、川嶋あいの音楽が認知され、多くのリスナーを獲得するきっかけになることを願っています。

ただ収録曲に関して多少、疑問が残る。まず「もう１つの約束」を収録する必要性を感じない。もう1つは「１秒の光」が収録されるのに、なぜファンの間でも人気の高い「もっと！」は収録しないのか？

その辺りの選曲の悪さや事務所の戦略のなさが非常に目立ちます。やはりレコード会社だけでもメジャーに移籍した方が将来的には良いのでは？と個人的には感じます。
