近頃では、同郷カナディアンのアヴリル・ラビーンの陰に隠れていた大先輩アラニスの待望の新アルバム。タイトル通り、試験的音の数々が絡み合ってひとつの大きな形を形成しています。Alternative rockのテイストは根底を流れ、初期のdance popを洗練・昇華させたような、electronica風のサウンドも散りばめられ、満足度はたいへん高いです。曲順も非常によく練られている印象を与える程、ドラマチックなストーリーテリング的な曲の順序で、ラストのIncompleteに至る道程はまるでひとつの小説を読み終わったような残香を内包しています。

歌詞はあいからわずの率直さが気持ちよいくらいに表現されています。恋愛の痛みやアラニス独自の恋愛観がオーディエンスに届くように力強く綴られています。昨今彼女を取り巻く恋愛模様の報道が元彼氏の結婚で幕を閉じたアラニスの心情も垣間見ることができるアルバム。恋愛で傷ついたことのある誰もが聴いて共感するアルバムになっています。お勧めです。

多面性のある感情表現豊かな女性・アラニス・モリセット。
今作は、愛していた人に対する怒り、世の中に対しての怒り、を込めた楽曲があり、
1stの「ジャグド・リトル・ピル」の頃を彷彿とさせるような勢いに満ちています。

しかし。その表現はプログラミング・サウンドの多用、という手法になりました。
以前は、ロックの延長としてアラニスを聴いていた私は、ああ、変わってしまったな、と思いました。

アーティストの何をもって好きかとするのは人それぞれですので、
別にロックがなかろうときっとアラニスの本質には関係無いのでしょう。
しかし、あの圧倒的な歌声はノイジーな音に紛れてしまうにはもったいない、と私は思いました。
ピアノの曲は、極端に研ぎ澄まされた本当にいい曲でした。


いい脚本なのにキャスティングが悪い映画を見たような、しっくりこないものが残りました。

アラニス・モリセットと言えば1stアルバム「JAGGED LITTLE PILL」が強烈すぎて2,3,4作が霞んでいる印象。今回プロデューサーにビョークやマドンナなどの仕事で知られるガイ・シグスワースが起用されてる。

前４作よりエレクトリック色が強い・・と言っても曲の情感を増すための効果でアラニス特有の人間臭さは変わらない。アラニス＋エレクトリックの相性は悪くないと思う。

このアルバムタイトルも時間をかけて付けられたようだ。直訳すると「もつれた香り（ないし色彩）」だが「男女関係の様々な色」という意味らしい。

正直1st以来の愛聴ぶりだ。アラニス本人も離婚後のアルバムだけに詩の面では自分の内面をさらけ出した内容が多い。アーティストとしてのパワーはまだまだ十分に維持してる。
