この、サントラ第２作目は、鷺巣詩郎さんだけにこだわらず、
「序」関連の楽曲全てを網羅しようという意図だと思います。
映画の中で使われている楽曲がほぼ時系列に沿って収録してあり、
その意味で、正統派のサントラ盤となっていると思います。
「Beautiful World」等、宇多田ヒカルさんのキャッチーな
曲もフルサイズで収録されてますし。
映画でのイメージを追体験したいかたは、
まずこちらから買ってみてはいかかでしょうか。

対して、昨年発売されたサントラ第１作は、新劇場版用に、
鷺巣詩郎さんがリファインした壮大なスケールの楽曲を、
未使用曲も含めてカット無しで収録してあり、
非常に統一性があります。統一感ならこちらが上かもしれません。


総じて、第２作目から聴いた方でも、そこで鷺巣詩郎さんの楽曲が気に入ったなら、
第１作も是非聴いてみて欲しいです。
個人的な感想ですが、「序」の映像は、非常に緻密且つ壮大なイメージだと思いますので、
聴き込んでいくと、むしろ第１作目のほうがしっくりくるような気さえします。
この第２作目の鷺巣詩郎さんの楽曲の１つ１つが短くカットされているのが、
とても勿体ない気がします。

以上のような２つのサントラの特徴を勘案して、まずは気に入りそうなほうから
聴いてみることを、おすすめしたいです。

作曲者、鷺巣詩郎名義にて発売されたフルサイズ盤(KICA-887)は起承転結、ひとつの曲としてそれぞれに「法則」があるのに対し、こちらは画に合わせた本編使用編集サイズ盤のため、各曲の「オイシイとこ」を抜き出し、それを存分に味わう事が出来るアルバムです。
TV版楽曲タイトルでの「あの人」(#09)や「この人」(#10)のテーマバリエーションをはじめ、ピアノアレンジが非常に印象深い(#30/#34)など、フルサイズ盤未収録曲も充実。
ブックレットもシンプルながら、作曲者のコメントや、TV版楽曲タイトルと対比させた丁寧な解説もあり良かった。
音と画の絶妙なシンクロ具合がTV版以来、本編のひとつの魅力となっていますが、
『作品における音声と映像の割合は5:5』
…と、音の面でも疎かにしない庵野総監督のこだわりと、収録時間いっぱいいっぱいのサービス精神もうかがえる一枚でした。
なお、5つの歌曲(宇多田ヒカル、三石琴乃)はいずれもフルサイズ収録です。

先に発売されてた Music from "EVANGELION:1.0" を買っていたので今回は見送るつもりでしたが、どう違うのか気になってつい購入してしまいました。結論から言って、コンセプトがまるで違うアルバムとなっており、買った甲斐があったと思いました。

宇多田ヒカルの主題歌等は別として、まず Music from 〜 には収録されてなかった楽曲が聴けるのが思った以上に嬉しい。特に Hedghog's Dilenma をピアノ・ソロにアレンジしたもの (「笑えば良いと思うよ」の EM09_Piano_D) とか、これがなかなか良い。この辺が聴けただけでも価値がありました。

無論 Music from 〜 に収録されている曲がこのアルバムの大部分を占めますが、フィルムに合わせて、尺を変えてあったり、トラックダウンがされていたり、バランスやパンニングも違っていて、まるっきり同じというものがありません。特に音質の変化は顕著で、ライナーノートで鷺巣氏がネタバラししていますが、マスターリングエンジニアの違いで、Music from 〜 より一層迫力の増した派手なサウンドになっています。場合によっては音楽的に不自然なほど強調されていることもありますし、中には曲の途中で中断するものもあり、その辺が OST たる所以でしょうが、しかしこれは例外的なものと受け止められる程度です。劇中での使い方が巧いのでしょうが、ぶつ切りの印象は無く、全編を通して音楽的なストーリー性を感じられるものになっています。

主な曲を、音楽的なミキシングで、フルサイズ聴きたい時に Music from 〜 の出番となります。同じ素材でもこうも変わるのかと、OST とアルバム作品で二度美味しい作品です。

私としては歌が余計に思えたので、星1つ減らしました。OST としては必須でしょうし、サービスと思えば悪くはないですが。
