一通り聞いて、『ポップだなー、落ち着いた？』と思ったんですが、何回か聞いたら、そこに詰め込まれたアイディアの数々に対して、
賞賛の意味で『超変態』だと気づいてしまったんです。
そのアイディアの分、作りこまれちゃってる雰囲気も否めませんけど。。。

変化を恐れない創作、それが今のPOLYSICSなんだなと思います。

POLYSICS、１年２ヶ月ぶりのニュー・アルバム。
結成から１１年、そしてメジャーデビューから８年。
ここまでの道のりは決して平坦なものじゃないが、最近はされるべき評価をきちっと受けている印象がある。

最新シングル「Pretty Good」はいわゆるポリらしさ、というものを表現した曲だと思っている。
みんなが大好きなポリシックスというか、「ポリといえばこーだよね」「ここはこうきて欲しいよね」みたいな
イメージの中の格好良いポリシックスをそのまま体現したような楽曲だと思っている。
小気味良くシャキシャキしたバンドサウンドに畳み掛けるようなハヤシのボーカル、
更におなじみヴォコーダーまで取り込んで見事、ポリにしか出来ないロック・ソングを鳴らしてくれた。

で、このアルバムもまんまその印象が強い。前述のPretty〜は初期のころも髣髴とさせるし
前作で表現して見せた日本流のニューウェイヴと今までやってきたことの積み重ねが思いっきりなっている。
この１４曲を聴き終えたあと、「これはやりきったな！」という感触になるのである。
「POLYSICS」というイメージの枠の中で、過度な冒険はせずそのまま自分たちらしさを出しているというか。
　こう書くと無難な感じもするけれど、しかしここまでイメージ通りの、期待通りの楽曲たちを聴くと
完成された形の中でより面白く、研ぎ澄まされたものを追求している感じの方が強い。

そしてソングライティングの部分でも幅が広い作品。端的に言うと様々な楽曲が入っている。
たとえば良い意味でクールさを感じる「DNA Junction」、ド真ん中の歌ものポップな「Kagayake」や「Degital Coffee」、
またアルバムのタイトルにも関与しているハードコアナンバー「機械食べちゃいました」などなど
様々な方向性の楽曲がなしのつぶての様に次々と飛び出すカラフルなアルバムにもなっている。
聴いたことある・・・かと思えば「そういえばこういうの無かったな」って曲がいくつもある。

今やギターウルフやCORNELIUSなどと共に、「日本代表バンド」になった感もあるPOLYSICS。
その破格の才能を確認すると同時に、今まで触れたことの無い人はこのアルバムから入るのも良いかもしれない。
とにかく抜けが良くて気持ちよく聴ける作品だ。

かなりポップな曲が多く、一般大衆に迎合する内容だとの批判は免れまい。
しかし、それだけにキャッチーで、初心者には優しいアルバムになっている。
それでいてポリならではの意味不明語やクセはきちんと残しており、
他のバンドとはきちんと一線を画している。
この絶妙なバランスは素晴らしい！と私は感じましたよ。
特に後半の曲はかなりお気に入りで毎日通勤電車で聴いてます。
