前年「ランボー怒りの脱出」と「ロッキー４炎の友情」が立て続けに
大ヒットを記録し、社会現象にもなっていたぐらいスタローン人気が
ピークを迎えていた正にその時期に製作されただけあり、画面を通して
見ても油が乗り切っていて活き活きとした姿が印象に残っています。

ストーリーとしては、端的に言えば凶悪なカルト集団による殺人事件の
一部始終を目撃してしまった女性を守るロス市警のはみだし刑事の活躍
を描いたものです。

お約束どおり、スタローンが危険な殺人鬼たちを苦戦しつつも次々と
倒して行ってくれるので安心して観ていられます。特に、バイクに乗った
刺客らを拳銃で確実にしとめて行くところが、ハンターみたいで逞しくて
格好いいです。

個人的には、冒頭のエピソードで「この俺が新世界のヒーローだ！」みたい
に叫んでイカれている男に「お前は病気だ、俺が薬さ」と冷静に吐き捨てる
スタローンの台詞も気に入っています。

　「ロッキー」で一世を風靡したスタローンの、スタローンらしい映画ですね。ストーリーは単調で、殺し合いを描くための作品。しかし、かっこよさがついて回るのは、「ロッキー」の影響でしょうか。
　しかしSFやスタントを使わずに、豪快な映画にするところは、スタローンの生きた方ともとれる内容に仕上がっています。銃と殺人、破壊と爆発は、現在のアメリカを象徴するもので、その一翼にスタローンもいるのかもしれませんね。

　カルト殺人集団の殺人を目撃してしまった女性を守る刑事のアクションテンコ盛り映画です。しかし目撃者を殺してまた別の目撃者が出たらどうするんでしょう。当時はまだスタローンの黄金期。ちょうどシュワルツェネッガーの「ターミネーター」や「コマンドー」がヒットしてアクション映画はシュワかスタローンかなんて言われ始めた頃です。スタローンもかなりの熱の入れようで脚本も書き当時はまだ新婚ほやほやの婦人を引っ張り出して今までロケに使われたことのないＬＡで撮影し、悪役の使うナイフのデザインまで口出しした程。「ターミネーター」で殺されたチンピラが悪役を務め相棒や上司に「ダーティーハリー」に出演した俳優を起用したのは偶然か！？監督のジョージ・Ｐ・コスマトスも当時は「多分２を作る。」言っていたものの「２」はありませんでした。まぁそんな程度の映画です。何も考えずに見るには最適な映画ですかね。
