2008 finds Disturbed Indestructible with their fourth album. Disturbed is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The group was formed in 1996 when musicians Dan Donegan, Steve "Fuzz" Kmak, and Mike Wengren hired singer David Draiman in Chicago, Illinois. Draiman had grown up in a religious family from which he rebelled, being expelled from five boarding schools in his adolescence. His anger found an outlet in the thrashing sound of Disturbed. They have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. Originally classified as a nu metal band,Disturbed is now regarded by some music critics as hard rock or heavy metal, although others now regard them as alternative metal.

前作において、究極な形で提示されたディスターブド流メタル。今作は、それを更に深化させた印象がある。
前作から導入されたギター・ソロをほぼ全曲に配し、曲展開に幅をもたせた上で緻密に構築された楽曲。やや増量気味の破壊力抜群なリズミック・ボーカル。全編、隙間なくリズムとメロディが渾然一体となって押し寄せてくる。
今作はサンプリングが表に出てくる割合が増えた分、１ｓｔに近い印象もあるが、大枠では前作を引き継ぐ硬派なメタル。セルフ・プロデュースも全く問題なく、強烈な音圧で迫ってくる。あいかわらず強烈なアルバムだ。
今作も個々の楽曲は個性的で新機軸といえる展開も見られるが、唯一、問題点を挙げるとすると、聴後の印象が前作までの楽曲と被ってきている点。今後も、自分たちの築き上げた音楽性を深化させていくのであれば、ボーカル・メロに更なる工夫が必要かもしれない。
進化か深化か。メタリカとなるかスレイヤーとなるかは、次作辺りではっきりするような気がする。
個人的には、彼らがヘヴィ・ロック界のＡＣ／ＤＣを目指してても、全く問題なく支持し続けるけどね。

熱狂的にdisturbedを支持する人であればあるほど、このアルバムを聴いた際に困惑と感動が綯い交ぜになった感覚があるのではないかと思う。
自分はそれがあった。
前作よりもかなりメタル色が強く出ている。全曲に配されたギターソロ。そしてdisturbedならではのメロと歌声。迫力。重低音。disturbedであることは一聴で判る。けれどもこのメタル色の強さ。それらが混ざり合って感動と、困惑が発せられるらしい。
そして、ああそういえば、と気付くのは彼らが何度となくインタビューで答えていた「１stのような」という表現だ。そういえば、１stはメタル色が強めだった。彼らはこのことを指していたのだろうか？と考えた。

前作"Ten Thousand Fists"の完成度は非常に高かった。傑作と呼ぶ人も多かったと思う。(自分も同意！)
傑作と呼ばれる作品の後に全くアルバムが出なくなるバンドは結構ある。方向性を見失い、崩壊していく場合も多い。そんな中、disturbedはコンスタントと言えるペースで作品を発表した。1stの当時を思い起こすような…何故かリラックスして作った印象すらある気がする…作風で。同時に、深化を示しながら。力み過ぎて崩壊しなかったことが、素直にうれしい。
感動と同時に困惑しつつ自分が考えたのは、fanへの、シーン全体への意思表示なのかもしれない、ということ。「やりたい事をこれからもやるからな」というような。(笑)

正直、このアルバムは初めてdisturbedを聴く人には自分は勧めない。(初めてなら1stや3rdがよろしいかと。)一度聴いてすぐに覚えるような曲は少ないように思うからだ。好き嫌いも分かれやすいだろう。しかしfanは聴くべき一枚になったと思う。深まる曲が、深度が、声が、リフがdisturbedだ。

長く聴く一枚になりそうだ。これからも期待し続けるので、敢えて星４つで。

　以前のアルバムを聴いていないのでなんとも言えないが、クラシックなメタルを聞いてきた耳には、とても心地よく聞こえた。特に、ギターソロなんかはオールドスタイルでやってるし単純に楽しめた。DISTURBEDは、所謂NU-METALと呼ばれる他のバンドと十把ひとからげにされてきたかもしれないが、ここで聴かれるのはオーセンティックだが特有のスタイルを確立した普通のHEAVYMETALと聞こえました。SYSTEM OF A DOWNとかの方がよっぽどミクスチャーな感じがした。
　また、その独特なVOCALがひとつの楽器（マシンガンのように矢継ぎ早にメロディックにラップっぽく歌うスタイル）のように聞こえるスタイルには、正直「やられた」と言うところでした。
