有名な1954年12月24日のクリスマス・セッション(残ったテイクは『Modern Jazz Giants』へ)の表題曲1・2。1954年6月29日3-7録音。

1・2がミルト・ジャクソン、3・4・6がソニー・ロリンズ、5・7がガーシュインのナンバーである。面白いのは裏面のメンバー・クレジットにはセロニアス・モンクの名前が無いのにも関わらず、表のジャケットには堂々と名前がクレジットされているところだろう。作曲者として参加しているわけでもないモンクはいったい何処にいるのか。それが本作の最も面白いところだろう。

セロニアス・モンクというスパイスは今でもジャズの至る所に残されている。マイルスのアルバムでありながら、何故かモンクのことを考えてしまう作品である。

僕は個人的にはこのアルバムはたくさん聴きどころがあると思います！
１、２はジャズファンのなかで有名な喧嘩セッションで、あとはロリンズとシルヴァーとの共演です。
１、２はモンクとの喧嘩セッションですが個人的にはミルト・ジャクソンが結構がんばってると思います(笑)。二人の雰囲気に刺激されているのでしょうか？
マイルスもモンクも結構いけてます。
後半はロリンズの曲がいいですね(笑)あと「エアジン」「オレオ」なんかは「マラソンセッション」のときに再演されてます。聴き比べてみるのも意外と面白いですよ！特にマイルスのソロとかロリンズのテナーとコルトレーンのテナーを比べると違いがはっきりしてておもしろいです！それに、どちらもとてもいい演奏ですし(笑)
最後にバット・ノット・フォー・ミーですね
個人的にテイク１が好きですが、テイク２と聴き比べるのも悪くないです！
あとこの曲は失恋の歌なんですね〜。そんなこと考えながら聴くとより一層楽しめたりして(笑)。
