本作は、ゲイリー・バートンとチック・コリアが清冽な音の衝撃作「クリスタル・サイレンス」のリリース３５周年を記念した作品。全曲ライヴ録音だが、ＣＤ１は昨年５月シドニー・オペラ・ハウスでのシドニー交響楽団と２人の共演、ＣＤ２は２人だけのデュエット。＃５だけカナリア諸島、残りはノルウェーのモルデ・ジャズ・フェスでのどちらも昨年７月の録音。ＣＤ１ではオケとの共演で新境地を切り開いているが、結局耳を惹きつけるのは２人の演奏で、オケの演奏・アレンジ自体にあまり魅力を感じない。２人の繊細な交感がオケの大音量に隠れてしまう箇所があり、オケと２人の演奏の融合の点で改良の余地ありと感じる。これに対してＣＤ２は待ってましたと声をかけたくなる期待通りの出来だ。懐かしい曲が多く、例えば＃１は昔初めて聞いた時のような衝撃こそないが、約３０年という月日を感じさせない瑞々しい演奏だ。年輪・熟成が魅力を増した面もあるが、それより２人の演奏に永遠の若さを感じることができるのが嬉しい。また、＃２をデュエットで聴けるのも楽しい。両ＣＤに共通のラ・フィエスタの聴き比べも一興だ。総合してＣＤ１が星４個、ＣＤ２が星５個、平均して星４個半、繰り上げて５個というのが私の評価だ。なお、チックとゲイリー本人以外にパット・メセニーもライナーを書いており、日本盤には当然その訳もついている。

かの名作「クリスタルサイエンス」発表３５周年を記念して発売された２枚組のライブアルバムです。何れも、２００７年のライブですが、ＣＤ１は、コリア＆バートンに加え、シドニー交響楽団が共演していいます。
さて、内容はといえば、他のレビュアーも仰っているように、やはり、ＣＤ２の２人のデュエットが秀逸。ＣＤ１も、もちろん悪くは無いのですが、オーケストラと共演する必然性を感じる効果が出ていません。まあ、ときおり、オーケストラらしい響きで盛り上げてくれるのと、ラフィエスタを、ＣＤ２と聞き比べることができること位でしょうか。
それに対し、ＣＤ２は、こちらも名盤の「インコンサート」に勝るとも劣らない内容。曲目も、コリアオリジナルの名曲Ｔｒ４、５だけでなく、ビルエヴァンスのＴｒ２なんてのもやっていて、思わず、微笑んでしまいます。
彼らのデュエットが好きな方には、文句無く買いのアルバムではないでしょうか。
