内容紹介

坂本龍一とのコラボレーションで一躍その名を広めたAlva Notoことカールステン・ニコライの新プロジェクト「Aleph-1(アレフワン)」。Alva Noto名義でのサウンドワークからは逸れ、本作では柔らかなアコースティック・サウンドの響き大切にした、エレガントで心地の良いミニマル・テクノサウンドを作り上げています。

アコースティックな響きを感じさせる8つの様々なパターンのトラックで成り立つ本作は、無駄なものを一切排したような最小限の音数で構成さているサウンドにも関わらず、柔らかなアタックのパルス音が、幾何学模様のようにリズミカルに、そしてメロ ディアスに美しく配置される、極上のミニマル・エレクトロニック・ミュージック。

Aleph-1のコンセプトは、数学者ゲオルク・カントールの理論に由来していており、「無限」の観念と関係があります。すべてフェードイン、フェードアウトされている各楽曲は、まったく違うパターンなのにも関わらず、非常に論理的な構成によって、永遠に続くような、または、無限に広が続けるような錯覚を覚えます。この「無限のサウンドは、自分を見失ってしまう危険性も伴いますが、aleph-1はこの危険性も見越して制作しているのです。

ミニマルな、アコースティックなこの音は、曇り空を背景に降ってくる灰色の雪、の感覚を、もう少し明度を上げたような、無機的に機能するが、生き物らしく増殖する、ウィルスのような、そう、病気とかそういう付随する機能を排除してウィルスを観察しているような、そんな音。

しかし気になるのは、このCDに入っている音の収録時間をみると様々な長さのトラックが存在しているが、その時間に設定している必要性がよくわからない。例えば、あるトラックが９分あるとすれば、僕の場合はそれを２分聴いたら満足してしまう。だったら２分でいいのではないか。「もっと長く聴いていたい。だから８分必要だ。」という人がいるであろうことはわかるが、というならば、他の、あるトラックが２分半とかで終わってしまうのはなぜなのか。この長さの違いに意味があるのかどうか、わからない。すべてのトラックが同じ長さであるならば、ものすごくいい音のループを作ったすごい作品だと思ったかもしれない。
