アニメ 『AKIRA 』 で有名な 森本晃司 氏によるジャケットが目印の 『 ジェリ-トーンズ 』 。　コレには初回限定盤と通常盤があり、初回限定盤の方が収録曲数が多く "エクストラ" のビデオクリップが見れるなど特典が豊富です。　　"Cocoa Mousse" のドラムやアジアを彷彿とさせる "Moved by Air" の独特なリズム感、"Endless Season" の美しいストリングスでの締めくくりなど、ケンイシイ 絶好調のアルバムです。
　そして 森本晃司 氏のビジュアル・サポートによるプロモーション・ビデオ付きの "EXTRA" ですが、プロモを見た後では全く感想やイメージが変わります。　イントロからの静かな流れと中盤からのグルーヴ感はこのアルバムのひとつの山場。

ケンイシイは面白い人だなと思う。DJをやればファンキー、かつアグレッシブに攻めまくる。一方トラックメイカーになれば、己の精神世界を音像化した内省的世界を示してくれる。しかしその音像にもDJ時のフアンクネスが見え隠れし、この作品はリスニングなのに身体が反応してしまう不思議な作品となっている。今某カップ麺のCMとなっているアニメをさらにカッコ良くしたようなPVも初回版だけ同梱されていました。機会があればネットか何かで見て欲しい。各曲は、このレビューの題名のようなイメージです。だからといって、古臭い感じはしません。

「ケン　イシイは有名だから嫌だ」なんていっている人はきっと、人生の幸を一つ失っている。「テクノはオタクの音楽だ」と思っている人であっても、KEN ISHII JUAN ATKINS DERRICK MAY　あたりは最低、彼の言う「同世代の音楽」の巨匠として聴いておくべきだ。この人はこのCDの限定版にエキストラのＣＤＲをくっ付け、テクノ界のマイケル・ジャクソンと化し「テクノ・ゴッド」であるといっていい。アメリカ黒人のマイケル・ジャクソンが踊りなら、日本人のケンイシイは「ジャパニメ」。この文化の優位を意識したケンの先見性は日本を客観的に見ることの出きるプロとしての感覚に尽きる。「エキストラ」というこの永遠の名曲については他の方も書いていますが、素晴らしいです。何といっても、彼が言うように「西洋でもない東洋でもない、どこかに感じる近未来性それがテクノの未来」をはっきりと感じる。

日本人にとってもどこか懐かしい、音の使い方、この発明された音がぐっと締まり、どここにもない不安のある未来感を否応になく見せつける。

また、単調なビートとして批判を受けることがあるテクノだが、この人の曲の場合、その音が単調な世界にメスを刺す。ストーリー性があるのが素晴らしいと思う。作品全体でも、貫禄を感じることができるし、才能があふれ出ていることが分かる。「ケン・イシイ」世界を舞台としてより一層、羽ばたいて欲しい。
