   本作『Thrak』は、80年代の再結成後にリリースされた『Discipline』『Three of a Perfect Pair』『Beat』を引き継ぐ内容となっている。オリジナル・メンバーであるロバート・フリップ、エイドリアン・ブリュー、トニー・レヴィン、ビル・ブラッフォードに、スティック（ベースに似た楽器）のトレイ・ガンとパーカッションのパット・マステロットを加えた編成だ。音楽的には80年代のクリムゾンのアルバムと似ているが、民族的なリズムへの関心は薄れ、弦楽器の出番が多くなった。ブラッフォードとマステロットは精力的なプレイで存在感を発揮しているが（「B'Boom」は必聴）、どちらかと言えばサポート役に回っている。ブリューは、ソロ活動でそれなりの成功を収めた後での参加となるが、これで以前のポジションに完全復帰。彼はすべてのボーカルを担当するほか、バックで個性的なギター・ワークを披露するなど、大車輪の活躍ぶりだ。（Adem Tepedelen, Amazon.com）

　1995年作品。スタジオライヴ・ミニ「VROOOM」（1994年）に続いて遂に姿を現したフルレンス「THRAK（スラック）」。エイドリアン・ブリューをフィーチャーした、1980年代に近い編成で、前評判では期待と不安が交錯していたが、結果として非常に満足の行く作品に仕上がった。

　最大のポイントは、初期の叙情性がある程度復活していること。特に歌モノでメロウな旋律がふんだんに使われている。エイドリアン・ブリューは歴代シンガーの中で一番キーが高く、普通に歌えばクリアな高音の美声シンガー。それがキャッチーで素直なメロディーを歌うため、ポップですらある。

　ドラマーとベースが2人居る「ダブル・トリオ」という荒々しい編成はこの際、あまり意識しなくていい。インスト・バトルではうなりを上げるリズム隊だが、ヴォーカル曲では意外と大人しくまとめられており、リズムばかり目立っていた1980年代の姿はない。

　ジャズの影響を感じさせる不協和音を効果的に使ったインスト曲は、評判通りのメタル・クリムゾンだし、一転してヴォーカル曲は、描写力の高いメロディーでどれも良い曲に仕上がっている。

　のっし、のっしと歩く恐竜を見事にサウンドにした「ダイナソー」、この世の中を動かす歯車＝人間を醒めた目で眺める「People」、「宮殿」のダークさを思わせる小曲「Inner Garden I＆II」、浮遊するメロディーの「Walking On Air」、そして相反する物を対比した、不思議な詞の切ないバラード「One Time」…。

　インストだけじゃダメという人でも、これだけ歌として良い曲が揃っていれば納得するであろう。クリムゾンにしては優等生すぎる…批判したがるファンはそう言うかも知れないが、素直に、良い曲が多い作品だと思う。「宮殿」、「レッド」に続く3つ目の名作が誕生した！と言わせてもらおう。

70年代後期クリムゾンのヘヴィネスと80年代クリムゾンのリズム位相変移／ポリリズムの技法が合体した6人編成のクリムゾンは、ライブを除けば事実上これ1枚で終わりましたが、世紀末を飾る大傑作といえましょう。

この後の現在進行2000年版クリムゾンは、ヘヴィネスをさらに増強したヌォーヴォメタルへと進化を遂げましたが、「現在のクリムゾンは重すぎて・・・」という人でも、こちらには大満足でしょう。

5.0 out of 5 stars ダブルトリオの初作品で最後のフルアルバム, 2008/2/29
今作の予告編としてヴルームが発表されていたので、聴き比べが出来るのだがこじんまりとまとめられた感が強い。しかし1曲目のヴルームはビートルズミックスと題されて、LRに各人の音が振り分けられている。これもクリムゾン初の試み。今作発表前にはツアーもしており、曲が成長したのが見受けられる。このアルバム発表後に6人でのスケジュール調整が難しい、コストがかかる等から、クリムゾンは次期クリムゾンの開発、調査の為にプロジェクトシリーズを行う。結果ブラッフォードのアコースティックへの回帰、レビンの多忙な事から脱退ではなく、離脱。ダブルトリオは幕を閉じる。
