テクニカル系ギタリストの大御所、Allan Holdsworthによる久々のオフィシャルライブDVDです。今回は、2006年9月29日、カリフォルニアにある名門ジャズクラブ「Yoshi's Jazz &Sushi Club」でのプレイを収録したものです。参加メンバーはAlan Pasqua（キーボード）、Chad Wackerman（ドラム）、Jimmy Haslip（ベース）というカルテット構成です。Alan Pasquaとは1970年代中盤にTony Williamsのライフタイムで共演して以来だと思いますので、約30年ぶりということになるはずです。

収録曲は以下のとおりです。

Holdsworthは数年前に「ギャラクシー・シアター」というライブDVDをリリースしていましたが、こちらは残念ながら映像・音質ともとても良好とはいえませんでした。今回は双方とも申し分なく、大変クオリティーの高い作品に仕上がっていて、ド迫力の超絶技巧を鮮明映像で楽しめます。すでに還暦を迎えた人間とはとても信じられないHoldsworthの速弾きは相変わらずで、ドアップの映像から運指の細かな動きも一目瞭然です。初来日のライブを収めたVHS「Tokyo Dream」を見たときの衝撃を思い出しました。

このライブの趣旨はよくわからないのですが、Alan Pasquaが参加したということは、やはり今は亡きTony Williamsへのトリビュート的な意味合いもあったのでしょう。ライフタイム時代の名盤「Believe It!」から「Fred」「Proto Cosmos」「Red Alert」の3曲がピックアップされている感涙モノの選曲はファンにとっては大変なプレゼントです。

ただ、あえて言えば映像が目まぐるしく変わる編集に難があります。もう少し落ち着いて見たいのに、あまり意味を感じない性急なスイッチングは興ざめです。映像自体は素晴らしいだけに、最後の詰めで余計なことをしてくれたというのが正直な感想です。私が所有する輸入盤は昨年から出回っていますが、リージョンフリーなので国産のDVDプレイヤーで再生できます。どうかご安心を。「もう我慢できん、ワシはすぐにでもアラホを観たいんやぁ！」という熱烈なファンは、すぐにでも輸入盤をチェックしてみてください。

最悪のカメラワークである。カメラを数台おいて撮影し、それを適当な時間をおいて
シーケンスしいているとしか思えない。アランが速弾きしている時に殆ど演奏していない
ジミーハスリップの映像が出たり、コンセプトが全く分からない。素人の映像です。

このライブは
アランホールズワースVS
アランパスカ
の双頭バンドと云えます

アランのバンドではキーボードのスティーブハントにSYNTHEAXEのサウンドパッチをそのまま使わせていたので(ちなみにアランの使っているTX816とは鍵盤の無いDX7のことです。)ライブでもスタジオ盤と同じシンセ音を再現していました

しかしこのライブではアランパスカに自由にやらせているのでキーボードの音は全然違う音色で演奏しています

歪んだエレピとかオルガンの音を多用しているので、トニーウィリアムスのニューライフタイムっぽくもあります(実際、ニューライフタイムの曲もやってます)

アランパスカの暴れ具合が、結構いいですよ!
ホールズワースは今回老眼鏡を掛けてませんね。
