この人の声はなにか切なげで、それでいて気の強さが感じられて。
ウエストコーストの人で、バックも当然その周辺の人たちなので
すが、どこかしっとりしんみりしてしまうのです。
一人になって、ちょっと元気になりたい時に、カーラの歌が寄り添って
くれます。

カーラ・ボノフのセカンドアルバムです。
全体を通して、素直なボーカルで、非常に聞きやすい。イーグルスのメンバーや、ジェイムズ・テイラーなどがゲストとして参加している。

特に、スローテンポのバラード曲での歌がすばらしい。三曲目の「The letter」やラストの「The water is wide」などは、思わず胸が締め付けられるような気さえする。
アップテンポの曲もあるが、全体的にイメージは、ジャケット写真によくあらわれているように思える。

個人的にすきなのは、ラストの「The water is wide」。海の向こうにいる恋人への思いを歌ったトラディショナルナンバーだが、大げさな言い方をすれば、世の中にこれほど切ない歌はないとまで思っている。
カーラの歌も、素朴ながらよく悲しみが伝わってくるし、ゲストのガース・ハドソン（ザ・バンド）のアコーディオンや、ジェイムズ・テイラーのギターとバックボーカルも雰囲気が出ている。
この曲一曲のために、このアルバムを買っても損はないといえるくらいである。

カーラボノフ79年発表の大傑作。当時は私は大学生でＬＰレコードを部屋に飾り毎日何回も何回もかけていました。当時は1や4のようなアップテンポに聞き入っていましたが、その後、年に数回聞くようになるにつれこのアルバムの本質っていうかカーラの魅力が違った意味で理解でき心癒す曲の多さと素敵さに参っています。もともと曲作りには才能のある彼女が当時のＬＡの名うてのミュージシャンの協力をえてつくったこの作品はその表現力の素晴しさが今聞いてもまったく色褪せていません。世に言うウエストコーストミュージックの最後を飾る大傑作と思います。８０年代に入るとこういった音楽って無くなりましたよね
