15、6歳ほどの可憐な少女の姿に身をやつした賢狼ホロの老獪かつ快活な話術と、
つとめて沈着に振る舞う25歳の中堅のごく普通の行商人ロレンス。
二人の狡猾な掛け合いと、淡い恋愛感情が交錯し、たまらない気持ちにさせられる。
さらに、中世ヨーロッパの商人や当時の過酷な生活をリアルに描き出し、
二人が行商の途中で巻き込まれる当時の行商人たちにとってはありがちな事件がスリリングに描かれる。
１つ間違えばあっというまに命を取られる時代。人の命が今ほど重くなかった時代。
それでも人と人との絆やつながりは今以上に深かった時代。
そんな時代の物語を、犬耳の少女をヒロインにして最近ブームの「萌え」要素を巧みに取り入れ、今の時代に受け入れられやすく仕上げています。
萌え＋濃厚なストーリーの両方を求められる今の時代が生んだ集大成でしょう。

このDVD４巻では羊飼いのおとなしい少女（萌えっ子系ややヤンデレの素質あり）が登場し、
これに賢狼を自称するホロが思わず本音で嫉妬してしまうという悶えくるしみそうな
しぐさや会話のシーンが楽しめます。
その直後には前回の成功で手に入れた財産が無くなり、死の直前まで追い詰められる激しい展開が始まります。
剣士達が剣を交えて戦うわけでも、魔法使い達が魔物を召還して戦うわけでもないのに、
商人たちや、町のなんでもないごく普通の人たちの命を掛けたリアルな戦いの日々に一刻も目を離せません。
積み重なる会話の切り返しだけでスピーディでドキドキハラハラの展開が続きます。
古い時代というのはやはり残酷な時代でもあったのだなと改めて思ったり。
それはそうと二期の発表はまだでしょうか。

『狼と香辛料』TVアニメ第8,9話を収録したDVD4巻です｡
金融､商業､農業など人とお金の流れを作品要素とし､
まるで利潤(儲け)と人情(尊厳､信仰)を天秤に掛けるような
異世界経済ファンタジーに感心させられます
(総合5/10点)

第八幕｢狼と正しき天秤｣★★★☆☆5/10点
　なんだか夫婦漫才のような雰囲気です
　食欲旺盛､美食派ホロの勢いに振り回されるロレンスとの
　新婚夫婦のようなやりとりに終始ニヤニヤ楽しめます
　しかし動物ならではの直感とそれに期待する彼の洞察力との
　水平精度騙し破りはなかなか見応えありですよ

第九幕｢狼と羊飼いの子羊｣★★★☆☆5/10点
　新キャラ･ノーラの参入による三角関係発生
　･･･にはならず､この世界における羊飼いの位置付け､
　互いの信頼関係を判っているからこそ弄りあうホロとロレンスなど
　対話の巧妙さが光ります｡どの方面からも商売に収束させる着眼点が
　鋭く､相変わらず脚本の良さが秀でています｡う〜む渋くなかなかに面白い

本当に、この作品はすばらしいの一言でした。
オープニングからして、今どきの、特に鬱やどろどろしたたくさん人が死ぬようなアニメと違い、ほっとするような、そう昔こどもの頃見ていた世界名作劇場のフインキが感じられる癒し系なアニメ作品でした。

そこに嬉しいお知らせが。
二期が決定したようです。スタッフキャストも同じようです。みなさん期待してまちましょう。
