第12回電撃小説大賞銀賞を受賞した支倉凍砂（著）と文倉十（イラスト）のライト・ノヴェルを原作とした新感覚ファンタジー・アニメーションのDVD第2弾。第四幕「狼と無力な相棒」銀貨の価値が上がるという儲け話のカラクリを見抜いたロレンス（福山潤）は、その情報をミローネ商会へ持ちかけてさらに儲けようとする。しかし、そんなときホロ（小清水亜美）は……？　初めて描かれるロレンスの危機と、その窮地を救うホロ。その過程で二人の仲が少し接近したかのように思わされる節もうかがえる。第五幕「狼と痴話喧嘩」はメディオ商会に囚われたホロの奪還劇。かなり緻密な駆け引きによる作戦だが、台詞でその多くが語られるので、やや難解。むしろ脱出してからサブタイトルに偽りなしの痴話喧嘩（？）など、ホロの喜怒哀楽が不器用ながらも豊かに吐露されていくあたりが魅力的。またここで、なぜ彼女が村から出たのか、その真相も語られる。（増當竜也）

原作のライトノベルはとても良い出来の話なのですが、
アニメ化すると作画が崩壊したり、無駄な改悪をする例が多いなか、
この作品は奇跡的にすばらしい作画と、原作の雰囲気をよく引き出した上に、
オリジナルキャラも加えてアニメの独自性も加えることに成功し、
すばらしい作品になっています。
原作のよさのせいもあるかもしれませんが、すばらしい構成と脚本です。
また、ホロ役の声優さんもホロの独特のしゃべり方（「わっち」「ありんせん」）などをイメージどおりにかわいらしくもかっこよく演じてくれています。
OPやEDもイメージどおりのすばらしさ。
よくぞ低予算でここまでの作品をつくれたなと感心するばかり。
２００７年度の名作と言っても過言ではないと思います。
ぜひ、このままエンディングまでこのクオリティを保ってほしいです。

原作は読んでいないのですが
本当におもしろいです。
ホロの長年生きている悲しさや
ロレンスの居場所がほしいという
いう気持ちがよく見ていてつたわりました。
またホロの小清水さんがすごく
かわいくてうまいです。レンタルでも
いいから一度みてほしいです。

『狼と香辛料』TVアニメ第4,5話を収録したDVD2巻です｡
金融､商業､農業など人とお金の流れを作品要素とし､
まるで利潤(儲け)と人情(尊厳､信仰)を天秤に掛けるような
異世界経済ファンタジーに感心させられます
(総合5/10点)

第四幕｢狼と無力な相棒｣★★★☆☆5/10点
　商会の裏の企みが発覚｡彼の足元を突く商人ゆえの無力さを感じさせられます｡
　孤独への嘆きに視線で交わす二人の会話場面も大人で上品な雰囲気｡
　商会という場所がある意味治外法権に近い特異さが時代風景を
　良く現しています｡個は腕力と集団の前には敵わぬものなのか･･･

第五幕｢狼と痴話喧嘩｣★★★☆☆5/10点
　知力を駆使した奪還劇の用意周到さに目を見張ります｡
　どこまでが本音で嘘なのか｡救出後の嘆きと騙しの笑顔の移り変わりの
　対話描写の巧妙さが光ります｡ホロの喜怒哀楽ぶりの愛らしさが
　印象的でした｡ただ説明が多く､付いていけない場面もしばしば
