日本独自のリマスタリングに期待して購入したが、全体を通じてそれほど高音質という印象は受けなかった。曲によってはヒスノイズや歪が甚だしく、一体これのどこをリマスターしたのかと首をひねりたくなるほど。オリジナルのテープが相当劣化しているのだろうか？音のゆれや解像度の低さも気になった。コンプレッサーでレベルを持ち上げて高音域をイコライジングで補正しただけのような音質。内容は素晴らしいが、このCDを決定版と呼ぶのは躊躇せざるを得ない。

もう30年以上も前の作品だが、横浜の某オーディオ店でスピーカーを視聴した際、その音質よりもアナログ盤で聴いた彼のサウンドに耳を奪われたことをまざまざと思い出す。まさに待望の再発である。近年のBN東京でのライブでもいささかもその声の艶は衰えていなかったが、このアルバムにはまさに第一線に躍り出ようとする勢いが感じられる。どの曲もすばらしいが、特にボサノバテイストのCatfishやIn the name of loveのセンスはどうだ。時を越えて、身震いするほどの鮮やかさである。

永らくCD化の陽の目を見なかったケニー・ランキンの名盤である本作('74年作)。輸入盤で一足早く入手できたのですが、ぐずぐずしていたら日本盤がリリースされたので(^^;エイヤッ！で入手しました。
時はSSWブームの只中。その中で本作が眩しく輝いているのは、ナチュラルかつ程よいブラジリアン・テイストを醸している点でしょうか。勿論、スキャットを交えたそのvoスタイルに惹かれるファンも少なくないと思います。
K.ランキン自身の作である[1]に見られる美しさに加え、[2]や[7]におけるビートルズ・ナンバーのアレンジも見事に馴染んでいます。
個人的には全くと言っていい程、K.ランキンという人には無関心なまま今日まで来てしまいましたが、いつもの通り臍を噛む思いです(^^; 他作にも手を出してみようかな、と思わせるには十分過ぎる程のいい作品でした。
