コンピュータのパフォーマンスを向上させるシマンテック統合製品。本製品は、「One-Button Checkup」「Norton Utilities」「Process Viewer」「CheckIt Diagnostics」の技術が組み込まれている。
「One-Button Checkup」では、1回のクリックでコンピュータを修復し、最適な状態での利用が可能。「Norton Utilities」では、コンピュータの問題を診断し、修復が可能。「Norton Cleanup」では、インターネットの不要なcookieや一時ファイル、履歴ログなどをすばやく削除できる。「Process Viewer」では、システムで実行中のソフトウェアプロセスを簡単に表示して、どれが全体的なパフォーマンスに影響しているかを確認可能。「CheckIt Diagnostics」では、ハードウェアの物理的な検査を実行してその安定性と能力を判定する。

68K MACの時代からノートン・ユーティリティーズを愛用して、WINを使うようになってまたこのソフトを使い続けてきましたが、今回あるPCを2006Basic Edition からBasic Edition 11.0に換えてみました。インターフェイスもスマートになりインストールもアクティブ化までスムースにいきました。以前Standard EditionではインストールにつまづいたことがありましたがこのEditionでは問題は無いようです。他のPCに10.0を入れたときに起動が早くなったように感じましたがこのバージョンでははっきりと体感できます。タスク・バーにチェック・マークがつくまでの時間も明らかに早くなりました。2006のときはまだかまだかと待たされる感じでしたが、こちらは そのようなことも無くスンナリ立ち上がります。特に再起動時は時間的に助かります。
ソフト自体の起動・動作もサクサク動くようになり修復後もPCがより安定度が増したように感じます。このソフトにセキュリティ・ソフトを自由に選んで組み合わせれば、まずかなりの問題は解消されるのではないでしょうか。そのうえで自分に合ったユーティリティを選択、追加すれば更に安心です。これまでのWIN用Nortonのなかではベストと思います。

追記:　WINを上書き再インストールする場合はいったんアンインストールして再度インストールしてください。時間はかかりますがやむを得ないです。でないと動作していてもどこかに不具合が出ます。つい最近自分でやってしまいました。うっかりそのままやりがちですがトホホな思いをします。認証については問題なくスムースにいきます。ご参考までに。

　Norton SystemWorks 2004からアップグレードしました。
　目を引く新機能はありませんが、細かいところがリファインされて、さらに使いやすくなっています。
　特にうれしいのは、ワンボタン検査で余計な一時ファイルを削除できるようになったこと。それも一律に削除するのではなく、ないと困りそうなファイルは残してくれます。不要ファイル削除だけなら、もっと強力なツールがあるのですが、やりすぎると動作がおかしくなるソフトが出てきます（必要な情報を一時ファイル用フォルダに保存する、行儀の悪いソフトがあるようです。）少し物足りないくらいの手加減が丁度良いみたいです。
　また、2004のレジストリ検査ではMicrosoft.NET関連のDLL参照をエラーと誤判定していましたが、この11.0は大丈夫です。
　システムが無難に安定して動くのが大事という方には、お薦めできます。

OSの起動が遅くなった、IEを閉じるときにメモリ参照エラーが出るようになったのとIE起動がすごく遅くなった、AdobeReader9と相性が悪かったのかPDF開くときにフリーズ連打でイラついたのでアンインストールしました。Nortonは昔から重いのが特徴ですね。Win98やMeなら安定性のためにあったほうがいいと思いますが、XPでは、ないほうがいいと思います。VistaTurbo5に乗り換えて快適になりました。Nortonはもう買わないです。
使用PC：e社デスクトップ・WinXP MCE SP2・Celeron333MHz・HDD160GB・RAM2GB
