(以下は本作"完全限定生産コレクターズBOXエディションDVD"より、レビュアー本人による全文再掲)

本作そのものの内容については、別バージョンのレビューを参考にされても良いだろう。あくまで私個人の思い入れを書いてみたい。ブランドン・リーのハリウッド初主演となった前作「ラピッド・ファイアー」（「リトルトーキョー殺人課」はブランドンが如何に活躍すれどクレジット上はＤ・ラングレン主演）に続いて選ばれたのは、アメコミ原作のダークなアクションスリラーだった。恐らくはクンフーをメインに据えた企画が多数あったであろうが、彼は「ラピッド」一作で、十分すぎる程の美しく強靭なクンフーを見せつけたばかりではなく、役者としての資質も開花させていたのである。彼は新たなる地平線を目指したのだ。
その時代、バットマンの成功がアメコミの映画化を促したが、多くは映画としての完成度も観ていて辛い物だった。彼はそこに挑んだ。
そんな中で飛び込んだ悲報。まるで父の作品と同じ様な死を迎えてしまったブランドン。しかも作品自体までもが、同様にスタントダブルやCGによる顔の差し替え等で完成に至ったのである。
この作品が他の当時のアメコミ映画と一線を画す佳作であった理由の一つは、VFXを前面に出さず、美術やライティングも含めたアレックス・プロヤス監督の演出によって世界観を表現させる事に成功した点だと思っている。彼の演出の妙は「ダーク・シティ」等でも明らかだ。
しかし皮肉にもブランドンの死によって本来不要な所でCGを使う事になり、結果「スタントでないカットでも役者本人抜きで完成させられる環境」が一歩進んでしまった。それが良い事か否かは私には判らない。
しかし本作は誰が何と言おうと、私にとって傑作である。「ブルース・リーの息子」と言う呪縛から解き放たれた、「優れた役者、ブランドン・リー」がここにいる。
