新年の幕開けを飾るにふさわしい活きのいいロック・アルバムが届いた。
新人らしからぬ実力を持ったバンド、FoZZtoneの１st。

このアルバムは全体的に雑多的な、本当にバッラバラの感触の曲たちが並んだ、
非常にユニークでポテンシャルの高い１枚になっている。
具体的に言えば打ち込みを導入した「TWILIGHT」があったり、フォズトーンらしからぬ
パンクナンバー「BRUTUS」があったり、屈指の名バラード「the imprinting」があったりと
あらゆるジャンルを吸収し、吐き出した独自性を感じさせる流れになっている。
それでいてどの曲にもヒリヒリとしたロック度の高いビートが鳴り、
アレンジが施されているのでバランスも取れた小気味良いアルバムになっている。

また、今作は新曲という点では実はそれほど入っておらず、インディーズ時代の楽曲や
昨年出したミニアルバムの楽曲、そしてその後のシングル楽曲など
「集大成」度が高いアルバムになっている。が、はっきりいって書き下ろしの楽曲の
完成度が高いし、全体の流れもかなりいいので追いかけているリスナーにも
新鮮に響くだろうし、もちろん初心者ならばドップリ嵌れる作品になっているだろう。

ストレートなギターロックに対するアンチテーゼ的な意味合いを持つバンドだなあ、と
今作を聴いてつくづく実感させられた。最新シングル「黒点」はかなり直球のギターロック
なのだが、実は歌詞の中では「やたらと人が死ぬラブストーリー」だとか
「軽率なのはロックンロール」だとか聴き手をドキッとさせる言葉が並んでいたりする。
このバンドは元来日本のロックに於いて引き継がれてきた「ひねくれ系ギターロック」、
それを今、かなりいい感じで表現してるバンドの一つだと思う。
ギターロックが苦手な方も是非。

　オープニングに続く２曲目とラストの曲が、ちょっとだけスキマスイッチに似ている。だけど他の曲は、巻き舌ロックだったりダークなギター・ロックだったり、カラフルなポップ・ロックだったりするVo.の七変化ぶりが楽しい。
　でたらめな曲配置というんではなくて、開放的で自由な印象を受けた。自分で自分にわくをはめないで、生まれ出たものを形にした感じ。しかも、ただ音を垂れ流すのではなく、商品としてキッチリとパッケージしてリスナーに提供している。プロいぜ！

最も素晴らしいアルバムですね。
聴いててとても面白い。
色々なジャンルの曲があって、器用なバンドだと思います。
