2001年デジタル・リマスター、ボーナス・トラック１曲追加のCD音源をSHM-CDにしたものです。
ボブ・マーリーを聴くなら、これと『キャッチ・ア・ファイアー』と言われているだけあって、感動的でした。まったく加工処理がなされていないわけはないでしょうが、でも、スタジオ録音よりも音がオーヴァーダブされていないのがいいですね。やはり「ノー・ウーマン、ノー・クライ」での大合唱が世界に勃興する当時のレゲエの勢いを物語っています。
でも、このSHM-CD盤はあまりに値段が高すぎますね。

７０年代初頭のポール・サイモンの「母と子の絆」を嚆矢として英米ポピュラー／ロック・ミュージック・シーンに大きな影響を与えたレゲエ。そのレゲエの神様ボブ・マーリー７５年ロンドン公演の歴史的記録。当時わずかな期間でレゲエがシーンの前面に出てきたことに驚かされたものだ。それまで共に歩んだバニー・ウェイラー、ピーター・トッシュが前年にウェイラーズから脱退し、ボブ・マーリー&ザ・ウェイラーズとして活動を開始したのが７５年。しかし、本作でのバンドの演奏は申し分なく見事だ。レゲエの代表作を１枚選べと言われれば私はやはり本作を選ぶ。超有名曲ノー・ウーマン、ノー・クライの本作での演奏は、ＦＭ放送をテープでエアチェックした昔から何度聴いたかわからないが、本作の熱演はこの比較的スローな曲だけではない。他のエネルギッシュな曲とともに熱さに打たれるべき作品だ。その熱気をＣＤに刻んだ音質が本作ではとてつもなくよい。２００１年リマスターされた音をＳＨＭ−ＣＤに記録しており、とても３０年以上前のライヴ録音とは思えない。大きな音でガンガン聴くのが快楽になる。

本作でボブ・マーリーを初めて知る人もいるだろうが、そういう人は熱い音の洗礼を受けるだけでなく、詞にも注目して欲しい。例えばノー・ウーマン、ノー・クライで、そもそも女性はどうして泣いているのか。ジャマイカの心の叫びに是非耳を傾けるべきだ。その早すぎる死が国葬で弔われたミュージシャンは滅多にいないのだから。

初めてボブ・マーリーを聞くなら、このLIVE!がお薦めです。1975年のロンドンライブが、とても聞きやすいアレンジで収められています。ボブの基本はスカですが、ここではロックっぽくブルースっぽくもあります。
ボブ・マーリーといえば｢no woman, no cry」があまりにも有名です。でも、意外とオリジナルのアレンジはレゲエというよりも、スカなので、初めて聞くと｢あれ？｣と感じたりするものです。その点、このアルバムに収録されている曲は、イギリス一般大衆向けの、耳になじみやすい演奏になっているので、ボブ・マーリーをそんなに聞いたことのない人が想像する｢レゲエのボブ・マーリーサウンド｣に満ちています。
