Freeファンの間では、これをベストと押す人も多いCreativeな秀作です。
実力派ブルース系ロックバンドとして、デビューした後の２作目にあたる本作ですが、早くも音楽性に幅を持ち、ジャケット同様、瑞々しい感性が発揮されています。
叙情的なインストとスキャットからなる"Mouthful of grasss"、フルートの切ない調べが胸を打つ名曲"Mourning sad morning"がその代表格でしょうか。一方、Freeらしいカチッとしたブルースロックナンバーもしっかり練り上げられたものです。P. Kossoffらしいリフが嬉しい"Trouble on double time"、後半一気にテンポを変える斬新な構成が気持ちいい"Song of yesterday"など、彼らのCreativityの高さを実証してくれます。

もう一つ挙げるべきは、Fraser-Rogersのソング･ライティングにおける開花でしょう。Three dog nightが取り上げた"Woman"はその代表例です。
個人的には、Freeのベストは"Fire and Water"と"Highway"としていますが、彼らのCreativityを実証し、後の名声の原石となるこの２作目をベストとする方々の感性にも大いに納得することろです。
