チャイコフスキーの『交響曲第4番 ヘ短調 作品36』と幻想曲『フランチェスカ・ダ・リミニ』のカップリングです。指揮者のミハイル・プレトニョフは、チャイコフスキー国際コンクールで第1位になったピアニストですが、最近は指揮者として活躍しております。ロシア・ナショナル管弦楽団も定評のあるオーケストラで、十八番とも言えるチャイコフスキーですからとても期待して聴きました。

第1楽章のファンファーレからしてロシア・ナショナル管弦楽団の強烈な金管の咆哮が炸裂します。チャイコフスキーのいたロシアの荒涼とした大地を彷彿とするような厳しさが込められています。この作曲の少し前に２ヶ月という短い結婚生活に失敗したチャイコフスキー自身の苦悩がでています。同性愛者であったわけですが、心優しい彼の心中に大きな重荷がかかったのは音楽によくでています。そのようなことを感じながら聴くと本当に大変な曲ですね。
第２楽章はロシア特有のメランコリックな旋律が印象的な曲です。過去を回想することで、現実の苦しさから逃避しようとでもいうかのような雰囲気が漂っています。
第３楽章は弦のピチカートで全編構成されています。このスケルツォを弦の奏者は乱れることなく精緻なアンサンブルを聴かせてくれました。
第４楽章の冒頭の音楽は、誰しも印象に残るものです。このスピード感と圧倒的な迫力、これぞオーケストラ、といったところでしょう。トッティのところで、全奏者の気持ちが一体となったｆｆｆの強烈な音の圧力は素晴らしいものがあります。

なお、この録音は1995年4月と1996年3月にモスクワで収録されたものです。

交響曲第4番、フランチェスカ・ダ・リミニを聴いて、オーケストラの迫力に圧倒された。プレトニョフ率いる、このロシア・ナショナル管弦楽団は凄い。歴史は浅いが、この先が楽しみなオーケストラだ。応援していこうと思う。
