　総合的に見れば、バックハウスとこのアルゲリッチと、どちらを買っても損はしないと思います。アルゲリッチは速い部分の滑らかさ、美しさが最高。彼女の演奏のすべてがそうだというわけではないけれど、やはり調子に乗ったときのテンポの速い音楽での流麗な響きはほかには求め得ない快さです。また遅い部分のしっとりとした繊細さ、これらを性差にたとえるのは間違いなのかもしれませんが、バックハウスの男性的な演奏と、アルゲリッチの女性的な演奏、好対照であるように感じます。

1985年5月、ロンドン、ウォルサムストウ・タウン・ホールで録音。アルゲリッチは1941年生まれなのでこの時44才。一般的には心技体そろって円熟期に入った、と言えるのだろうが、ぼくはいささかガッカリした。

特に第一番作品15は5曲のベートーヴェンのピアノ協奏曲の中で最も好きな曲なので、アルゲリッチがこの曲をどう弾くか楽しみだったのだが、平凡な演奏でいつの間にか終わってしまう。この曲の最高の名演はグレン・グールドだとぼくは思っているのだが、グールドはこの曲で自身作曲したカデンツァを用いたりと、実に緊張感と創意工夫に溢れたすばらしい演奏を残している。それなのにアルゲリッチはなんとカデンツァを省略しているように弾いているようにぼくには聴こえる。何だか悲しくなった。

第二番作品19の方も第一番よりは良いが普通であり、まったく印象に残らない。これを名演だと言う人がいたら、おそらくグールド盤を聴いていない人だろう。残念なアルバムだ。
