   録音したフル・アルバムはたったの4枚、活動期間はわずか4年だったが、ピクシーズは文句なしに1980年代で最大の影響力を持ったバンドだった。本作『Wave of Mutilation』は、彼らがもっとも輝いた瞬間を非常に簡潔なかたちでまとめたもの。全23トラックはアルバム収録曲だけでなく、上質のB面曲やレア・トラックを多数含んでおり、ファンを退屈させない（滅多に見つからないニール・ヤングのカバー「Winterlong」までもが収録されている）。

   しかし、こうやってバンドのエッセンスをたった1枚のCDに抜き出そうとすることに眉をひそめる頑固なファンたちもいるだろう。たとえば、「I've Been Tired」が入ってないじゃないか、といった具合に。それでも、そこはピクシーズのこと、集められた曲はいずれも珠玉の逸品だ。ラテン・ポップ調の「Nimrod's Son」、浮き世離れしたキム・ディールのボーカルが冴える「Gigantic」、リード楽器にテレミンを用いた「Velouria」、痛烈な皮肉が効いた「U-Mass」など、『Wave of Mutilation』は、おそらくマサチューセッツ州が生んだ最高のバンドであるピクシーズを知るための1枚として、持ってこいの内容である。とはいえ、本作さえあれば彼らのCDを全部そろえる必要がなくなるというものでもない。ピクシーズがいなかったら、ニルヴァーナが世に出ることは決してなかった。そしてまた、レコード・コレクションというものも彼らなくしては世に定着しなかったはずだ。（Ted Kord, Amazon.co.uk）

97年に発売されたベスト「Death to the Pixies 1987-1991」はリマスタリングされて迫力ある音像であった。だがこれはリマスタリングされていないのか？音圧が20年近く経つオリジナル盤と変わらずがっかり。

再結成、フジロック出演と今話題のpixies。
爽やかなポップさと奇妙なひねりの同居したあのセンスに思う存分圧倒されることが出来ます。
始めて聴く人はもちろん、ファンの人も改めてこの最高の4人の偉大さを確認して、身体をバラバラにされるような音の洪水に飲み込まれてみましょう。
夏はもう始まっています。

フジにて彼らの凄まじいケミストリーを目撃してきました。
思えば私がこの人達を知ったのは解散して十年余り後の去年の夏。その直後に再結成の朗報！そしてフジロックの参加。
全てが凝縮して恵まれすぎではあり、リアルタイムで聴いてきた方々にとってはピクシーズの何を知っているんだとの罵声ももちろんあるでしょう。

そんな立場にいますがあえて彼らについて語らせて頂きます。　あんなルックスで（失礼）ぐしゃぐしゃの、そしてメロディックという混然一体の音をぶちかます彼らは本当に孤高の、そして断トツの存在です。今の音楽シーンの中心にいるミュージシャンのほとんどが影響を受けたということが分かるはずです。ぜひ聴いてください。

ちゃんとしたライブ版が聴きたい！リリースを切望します。
