評判のよい映画なので一度は見ようと、軽い気持ちで見てみたけれど。
いざ見てみると現代風とはとても思えない絵の質。トムとジェリーと同じようなタッチ。
絶対受け付けない・・・明らかに損したなと思いながらそれでも気長に見ていたら・・・
後半にいくにしたがってすごい追い上げ。きづいたら泣きそうになってるし。
そして全部見終わると気分はとてもスッキリ！
いい映画ってまさにこういうものと思わせるいい映画でした。

日本のアニメもうかうかしていられない、アメリカの懐の深さを感じた作品です。
主人公は他の惑星から飛来した巨大ロボットと田舎の少年。
言葉の通じないロボットと少年がふとしたきっかけで知り合い、奇妙な友情を育てていく、と言う物語です。このロボット、実は戦闘ロボットだったのですが、心優しい少年の影響で地球上のヒーロー「スーパーマン」に憧れます。しかし、国防省がこの戦闘ロボットのことを嗅ぎつけて核兵器を持った軍隊が出動してきますが…。

テーマは「なりたい自分になる！」と言うもの。ディズニーや宮崎作品とは一味違った作品です。監督は、ブラッド・バード、この後「Ｍｒ，インクレデブル」や「レミーのおいしいレストラン」など制作しています。

「Ｍｒ．インクレディブル」「レミーのおいしいレストラン」と言ったピクサー作品で一気ブレイクしたブラッド・バード監督の出世作。
ピクサーに参加する以前の作品ですのでフルＣＧ作品ではありませんが、非常に良い出来で、
結局、大切なのは技術ではなく「物語とハート」であると思わされる作品となっています。

宇宙からやってきた巨大ロボットと少年の交流は９０年代版「Ｅ．Ｔ．」といっても良いのかも知れませんがロボットがなぜ地球にやってきたのか理由は一切明らかにされません。
それどころかどうやらロボット自身も記憶を失っているらしい事もだんだん分かってきます。
設定が冷戦時代の真っ只中、核競争の黎明期に設定されている辺りがテーマを鮮明にするのに効果を挙げていると思いました。
鉄の巨人が実は巨大な戦闘マシーンであることが分かってくる後半、兵器としての本能と懸命に戦う巨人の姿には現在も「戦争」をやめることのできないアメリカ人の苦悩を見て取ることもできそうです。
クライマックス、自らの意思で兵器ではなくスーパーマンとなることを選んでミサイルに向かって行く巨人の姿に泣かされない人はいないのでは？
この巨人の造形はお見事ですね。確かに只の鉄の塊といった感じなのに（特に下半身）細かい造形（千切れた手足がくっつく場面とか）はやたらメカっぽいところとか戦闘モードでの変身シーンとかも良くできてる。
何よりあの表情の豊かさにはやられました。
ストーリーテラーとしての才能は頭一つ抜きんでたバード監督、日本の宮崎駿監督にアメリカで対抗できる存在として注目しておくべきですね。
