今、こんなにこの名作が安価に手に入るのかとしみじみ。
内容は文句ありません。
貴族で大財閥のエッセンベック家が内紛を利用されてナチに乗っ取られるという話ですが
内容は毒満載で優美ですらあります。
特に財閥を冷徹に見据え乗っ取りを企てる親衛隊長アッシェンバッハ(ヘルムート・グリーム)。
映画を結構見てきた自分ですがここまで美しくも恐い親衛隊の将校を見たことがありません。
風光明媚な湖畔でドンチャン騒ぎのパーティの後親衛隊に殺される突撃隊。
主人公の財閥御曹司で生きる目的のない爪弾き者のマルティンが
アッシェンバッハにそそのかされ母親と愛人を陥れて財閥の乗っ取りを図る事。
この全ての後ろに彼の姿があります。
貴族の家名の影で薄汚いことばかりをしている親族を見続けたマルティンにとって
ビシっと制服に身を包み落ち着き払っているアッシェンバッハは
頼もしい父代わりに見えたのかもしれません。
そしてマルティンもあのナチの制服を着ることになるのです。
母に強いられた女装に別れを告げて･･･。

さていつもは冷徹に静かなアッシェンバッハが唯一狼狽したシーン。
その時に表れた登場人物の言葉が歴史と時代の流れの中で何が大切なのかを教えてくれます。

珍しくナチスが上り坂の時代を題材にした映画。
デカダンに満ちあふれた長編です。
興味をもたれた方は是非観てください。
ちなみに何故か音声は英語です(笑)。

なんというか「やはりビスコンティやな」っと思わせてしまう重厚さでした。ヒトラーが台頭する虚虚実実の駆け引きの流れを知っていないとこの映画の面白さは半減するかもしれません。なぜナチス同士が殺しあうのか？って途中で訳が分からなくなる人もいるでしょうから。この事件で唯一ヒトラーを「おい」って呼べた同士(突撃隊のレーム）を抹殺してしまうことになります。まあこれで誰も気兼ねする人はいなくなったわけです。ドイツ人の映画のはずが英語ですし、スウエーデンの大女優イングリッド・チューリンからイギリスのシャーロット・ランプリング（この人この手の映画よく出ますね）、青年はフランスのルノー・ベルレーでしょうか？？俳優さんは盛り沢山です。ラストシーンは狂気ムンムンですね。ビスコンティはナチスを狂気と見たのでしょうか？
