   オリンパス初となる超音波駆動方式SWD（スーパーソニック・ウェーブ・ドライブ）によるAFシステムを搭載した、35mm判換100-400mm相当のズーム域をカバーする高性能な超望遠ズームレンズ。光学系にはEDレンズを贅沢に採用し、望遠系レンズで目立ちやすい色にじみを極限まで補正するとともに、デジタル専用設計により、画面周辺部まで画像劣化のない、クリアで抜けの良い高品位な描写性能を確保。
   また、近接撮影能力にも優れ、ズーム全域で最短撮影距離1.2mを実現。 超音波駆動方式SWDを採用することで、AFスピードは従来モデル「ED 50-200mm F2.8-3.5」に比べて約2倍※1の合焦スピードを実現。※1 オリンパス測定基準による。

インナーズームでない点が気になって購入を躊躇ったが、性能の良さは聞いていたし防塵防滴ということもあり購入に踏み切りました。
E-3で使用していますが、AFはクックックッと３段階で合焦する感じです。使ってみて気付いたのですが、収納性という点ではインナーズームでないことが幸いして全長が短く、小型のカメラバッグにも収まります。ただ、フードが非常に大きいのでバッグには収まりません…。
評価は星五つでも良かったのですが、テレ側でF値が3.5に低下するのが不満なのと、開放では周辺光量不足になるので星四つとしました。
