   これはいいアルバムだ。ロイ・ヘインズのフレキシブル、かつしなやかなドラミングを存分に味わえるだけでなく、ローランド・カークの超個性的なプレイも聴けるのだから、もう言うことなしだ。
   人気曲はやはり冒頭の<1>。スウィング時代に演奏されたアーティ・ショウ楽団の人気曲だが、ここでは一種異様なムードから演奏がスタート。テナーとマンゼロの2本を一度に口にくわえたカークが、熱いソロを聴かせる。<2>はおなじみの曲だが、カークがテーマを吹いた途端にまったく新しい世界に連れ込まれて快感を覚える。また、ロイとカークの個人技が目立つ作品だが、アルコ・ソロが強力なヘンリー・グライムズと、トミー・フラナガンの2人も負けていない。
   一言でいって、痛快なジャズだ。かつてジャズ喫茶でリクエストの絶えなかった人気盤だが、確かにこれは何度聴いても興奮させられる。新リマスタリングによって、音質がさらに向上。ロイのドラミングがより鮮烈になったのもうれしい。（市川正二）

　Tommy Flanagan(p)、Roy Haynes(ds)、Henry Grimes(b)、Roland Kirk（ts, manzello, stritch, flute）のカルテットによる 1962年作品。
　やはり注目は Roland Kirk。後のアトランティック・レーベル時のような黒人魂の奔流はないけれど、管楽器の複数吹奏が醸し出す豊かな響きは、ここでも冴えまくりです。
　[1] でそうした音響の余韻に浸っているところへ、地面スレスレの低空飛行でサックスが [2] のメロディーを上げてくるところなんか非常にカッコいい。スタンダードだけあって名曲です。Roy Haynes らしいドラムが聴けるアップテンポ [3]、印象的なイントロの[4] は Kirk 歌いながらのフルート。[5] といった素晴らしいメロディのスタンダードが絶妙に入ってきますね。
　Kirk の魅力がストレートなセティングの中で展開される名盤と思います。個人的には「Fly Me to the Moon」の入りが最高です。

リーダーこそロイ・ヘインズとなっていますがこれはローランド・カークを聴くアリバムです。
ビ・バップからコルトーレンまで、ジャズにおける過去の様々スタイルが顔を見せたかと思ったら、メロディセンス溢れるオリジナルなスタイルが。
ここでのカークは汲めども尽きないアイディアの宝庫。
特に３拍子の「Fly me to the moon」はあまりにも有名。
