ジ・エッジの精密かつエネルギッシュなギタープレイで
聴き手に与えるスピード感が非常に心地よい
「約束の地」

壮大なメロディにボノの声が隅から隅まで響きわたる
「終わりなき旅」

静から動へ、感情の爆発をよぶ
「With Or Without You」

この3曲で自分の身体と音の空間がつながって一つになる。

アメリカ政府の対ニカラグア政策について歌った
「ブレット・ザ・ブルー・スカイ」や

チリのピノチェト政権下について歌った
「マザーズ・オブ・ザ・ディサピアード」

など歌詞も多様で、ボノの知的好奇心の旺盛さと
社会や政治に対する柔軟的な態度を感じられて素直に尊敬できる。

前作と同様、プロデューサーはブライアン・イーノとカナダ出身のエンジニア、ダニエル・ラノアだが、面白いのは4曲でミキシング・エンジニアとしてスティーブ・リリイホワイトを起用しなおしているところだ。つまりは3人の共作によるプロデュースと言えるアルバムだ。

神々しい荒野の先に見える光景を追いかけているような音楽である。ボーノのボーカルはますます純化し『魂』が透けて見えるかのような素晴らしさである。エッジのギター・リフも冴えまくりU2の最高傑作と言うにふさわしいアルバムとなっている。

僕の中の『魂』を震えさせる力を持ったアルバム。『Where The Streets Have No Name』から3曲が特に素晴らしい。
