"Blotted science”はロン・ジャーゾンベクが"Cannibal corpse"の凄腕指弾きベーシスト，アレックス・ウェブスターと共に"Machinations of dementia"という名ではじめたプロジェクトですが、ドラマーのクリス・アドラー(Lamb of god)が抜けてしまい、代わりのデレク・ロディも途中離脱。暗礁に乗り上げていたところでようやく"Behold the Arctopus"のチャーリー・ゼレニーが加入し、完成したのが本作です。

音作りはとてもヘヴィでテクニカル、デスメタルの"Spastic ink"といった感じです。
そしてプロダクションがまた素晴らしい！そこらの金持ちロックバンドのものを軽く凌駕しています。へヴィでありながら音の粒ぞろいが非常にクリアです。

ロンは独自の音楽理論に基づくコードプログレッション(The circle of 12 tones)で自分の音を確立したギタリストです（更にギターは自分で手作り！！）。アレックスはデスメタル界だけでなく全ベーシスト中でも屈指のテクニックの持ち主だと思います。チャーリーに関しては、前任のバカテク二人が抜けてよかったと思ってしまうほどの見事なドラミングを披露しています。三人の実力が遺憾なく発揮され、魅力も満載です。

ちなみにこの三人は同じ場所で会うことなくそれぞれのスタジオで録音。後はＥメールでやり取りしたサウンドファイルをロンがミキシングをしたとのこと。三人が顔を合わせたのはＣＤ発売の４ヶ月後だったそうです。

この作品はインストプログメタルの最高傑作です。とにかく強烈でカッコよくメタルしていて、自分にとっては間違いなく “人生の十枚”には入ります。プログファン、メタルファン共にぜひ聴いてみてください。日本でもＣＤの発売を願いたいものです。

デスメタルのテクニカルな面をこれでもかと抽出したような作品です。
芸術的な側面もさることながら、疾走感と複雑怪奇な深みは何度繰り返し聴いても引き込まれてしまいます。特にドラムのテンポ感は心地よく、思わず机や膝を叩いてしまうのです。
