2006年の第48回グラミー賞で3部門を受賞したカニエ・ウエストの2ndアルバム『レイト・レジストレーション』からのシングル「タッチ・ザ・スカイ」にフィーチャーされ一躍脚光を浴びたシカゴ出身のMC、ルーペ・フィアスコ。元々ダ・パック(Da Pak)というラップ・グループの一員で活躍していた彼は、グループ解散後、その才能に早くから目を付けていたジェイ・Zがフックアップした逸材である。最終的にATLANTICレーベルとソロ契約を結んだ彼は、カニエとの共演で注目を集めた後、マイク・ジョーンズやリル・ウェインらと共にアメリカでのリーボックのキャラクターに抜擢された他、「The Source」誌では3ヶ月連続の特集、「Billboard」誌ではデビュー前にも関わらず異例の表紙を飾るなど業界に大旋風を巻き起こし、あまりの人気爆発ぶりにアルバム音源がリークされ発売が延期されてしまう事態に発展。2006年10月にようやく正式発売されたデビュー・アルバム『フード&リカー』は、レーベルを超えてジェイ・Zが共同エグゼクティブ・プロデューサーとして参加した他、リンキン・パーク/フォート・マイナーのマイク・シノダやファレルといった大物たちもバックアップ。2006年ヒップホップ・シーン最大の大型新人として注目を集めた彼は、2007年の第49回グラミー賞では見事Best Rap Album、Best Rap Song、Best Rap Solo Performanceの3部門にノミネートされた。2007年1月に初のプロモーション来日、3月末には「Springroove」で再来日を果たした彼は、アニメやTVゲームをはもちろんGショックやアパレル・ブランドなど日本製品をこよなく愛する大の日本通としても知られている。。

アルバムのトラックが全体的に暗い感じでルーペらしくなかった。
できれば友人のファレルやカニエにプロデュースしてほしかった。
1stが素晴らしすぎて十字架を背負ったのか?
