5.0 out of 5 stars ニューデュランティック　〜帰ってきたデュラン節〜, 2007/11/23
80年代での華やかさからすればデュランデュランを意識していた人間意外は活動し続けていたことすら気付かないのではと思う程低迷していたように思う。
OrdinaryWorldがヒットはしていたがファンの私ですら実感として伝わる程ではなかった。
私や音楽ファンがデュランの変化についていけなかっただけかもしれないが事実90年代以降のアルバムは大きなヒットはしていない。
正直デュランの音楽性に疑問を感じていた所に有り得ないオリジナルメンバーの復活・・。
そのアルバムAstronautは決して期待を裏切る内容ではなくオリジナルメンバーらしい前編キャッチーな楽曲揃いだった。
詳しい事は知らないが商業的にはそれ程ではなかったのだろうと思う。
世界的にヒットしても不思議ではない充実のアルバムだったと思うがせっかくメンバーが戻ったのにバンドの個性が感じられず厚化粧をしたお子様ランチ的な感じがキャリアを重ねたバンドの音にしてはあまりにも甘口だった。
結局オリジナルメンバーからギターのAndyが抜け4人になって発表されたのが今回のアルバムだ。
プロデューサーの為か機械的なバンドらしくない音は前作以上になってしまったが過去最高なシンプルな音で「歌」と「リズム」を強調している。
歌に関してはデュランでしか聴けないデュラン(Simon)節がたっぷり聴ける。
少なくとも私には飛ばしたくなるような曲は殆どない。
気になるとすれば打ち込みの機械的なリズム音だがこれが今風、デュランと共に自分も今を楽しむ人間になるのだと好意的に聴けば聴こえるのは純なデュランミュージックだけだ。
派手な音が好きな人には物足りないかもしれないが超久しぶりの繰り返し聴きたくなるアルバムだと断言します。
踊れる聴けるデュランの復活です。

1stシングルfalling downは、確かに雰囲気のあるバラードでsimonが歌うに相応しく、ヒットする要素も十分あるのだが、多様な音楽性を持つduranを代表する曲にはなり得ない。彼等にとってはordinaryな曲に過ぎないということが、このアルバムを聴けばわかる。それほど充実している。
彼等の多様なルーツと現在の音を、ポップなメロディとオリジナリティで見事に融合させ、瑞々しい作品を作り上げた。duran duranの輝かしいディスコグラフィーに新たな傑作が加わることになった。

アルバムの多様性を1曲中に凝縮してしまったかのような1、エレクトロ・ガレージ・パンク2、トラッドなアレンジが新鮮な5、重厚なロックのグルーヴとエレガントなピアノの対比が面白い11。30年近いベテランとは思えない、音楽に対するアグレッシブな姿勢は尊敬に値する。
timbalandとのコラボレーションも大成功だったようで、硬質なR&Bのグルーヴからニューロマンティックなムードへと展開する3はもちろん、それに彼等らしいフックとライブなノリが加わった6に至っては、まさに最新型duran duranと呼びたい内容だ。

さらに、純度の高いダンスナンバー7、メランコリックな12まで、多様な曲を収録しながらもグラマラスでポップな印象がアルバムに統一感を与えている。アグレッシブなのにあくまでもポップに聴かせる、いかにもduranらしい刺激的なヴァイブに満ちている。

デビュー当時の５人で再出発の前作より３年。
新作では４人になってしまったのですね。
新曲 Falling Down と Nite Runner はDD公式ページで試聴可能です。
特に Falling Down は久々のDDヒット作の予感！！　と私は思うのですが、いかがでしょう。
DDに影響されたアーティストは多いのに、（←こっちは売れてる）
本家本元DDは落ち目みたいな言われ方をする。（酷すぎる）

全曲聞いてないので、期待を込めて星４つ。発売が楽しみです。
