<ストーリー>
1967年、激戦のベトナムに若い志願兵クリスがやってきた。少数民族や貧しい者たちからの徴兵に憤った彼は名門大学を中退してベトナム行きを志願したのだ。だが、いきなり最前線小隊『プラトーン』に配属された彼を待ちうけていたのは、想像を遥かに超えた過酷な戦争の現実だった。戦争の名のもとでの殺人、疑惑と憎悪、そして人間性の喪失との戦い……。死の恐怖が渦巻く最前線の中、彼はやがてベトナム人への虐殺・略奪・強姦など、戦争の狂気とその現実を体験していく──。

　オリバー・ストーン監督作品の中では、珍しくハッタリやケレンミのない純粋な作品です。戦闘シーンは主にジャングルで、観客にもいつ襲撃されるかわからないゲリラ戦の恐怖感が十分に伝わります。
　チャーリー・シーンは父親のマーティン・シーンが「地獄の黙示録」で演じたウィラード大尉のように無色の語り部であり、善悪あるいは正常と狂気の間で揺れる彼の心情は観客の心の動きを代弁しているかのようです。ウィレム・ダフォーとトム・ベレンジャーとの善と悪の単純な類型化もこの作品には適している。多くの優れたベトナム戦争の映画と同様に、最後に味方の爽快な勝利で終わることはなく、生き残っても、次の地獄（戦場または帰還後の社会への非適応）が待っていることを暗示して映画は終わります。ラストの音楽も効果的。最近のオリバー・ストーン監督の映画を見て失望している方もこの作品だけは見ることをおすすめします。

トム・ベレンジャーとウィレム・デフォーの演技が渋すぎます。
エリアスとバーンズは地獄に落ちた天使と悪魔だ。
お互いに自分の意思を最後まで貫き通していくPRIDE剥き出しの男達。
ベトナムの戦場の再現はリアルです。

先住民を襲う、残虐な侵略者として描かれた騎兵隊の姿は鮮烈であり
米国の暗部を世に広めた問題作「ソルジャーブルー」は、メタフォーで
あったと思われます。もちろんベトナム戦争に対してです。

様々な視点からベトナム戦争を描くことには、まだまだ時間が必要でした。
この作品を製作した米国に敬意を表したいと思いますが、ベトナム終戦から
経過した時間を思うと、現実の与えた傷跡の大きさに思いがいきます。
もうちょい淡々とした演出でもと思ったりしますが、「暗部を世に問う」という
製作の意思を噛締め多くの人に見て欲しいと思います。
