およそ2年ぶりになる彼らの新作は、「Hvarf」と「Heim」の2枚組。
ニューアルバム、というより「2枚組EP」ですね。解説にもありましたが。
変わった形の紙ジャケに入ってます。

まずは『Hvarf』について。
こちらは未発表曲と既成曲の別アレンジを収録したものです。曲間は特別意識されておらず、それぞれは独立して存在しています。
未発表曲3曲は新たにレコーディングされたものだそうですが、その骨組み自体は今までの活動の中で既に作られていたらしく、随所にこれまでの作品のエッセンスを感じとることができます。
「Takk...」の温かな光でも、「(　)」の深淵な暗闇でもなく、仄暗く荒涼としているけれど、どこか明かりを見いだせるという確信に満ちた、穏やかな希望の雰囲気を感じました。
また別アレンジ2曲の元曲はいずれも1st「Von」からのものですが、あのアルバムに徹底された冷厳さは崩れることなく、しかし今までにないほど多彩で美しいトラックに生まれ変わっています。（ちなみに、「Hafsol」は以前にシングルのカップリングとして収録されたものと同一です）

続いて『Heim』について。
こちらは今までの楽曲がピアノ・オルガン・ギター・ストリングス・そして種々のパーカッションなどによってアコースティックアレンジされたものが収録されています。「Live Recordings」とのことですが、お客さんの足音や拍手、またメンバーのMCなどは入っておらず、純粋に楽曲のみの編成です。
それぞれの楽曲の素晴らしさは今更言うまでもありませんが、今回のシンプルなアレンジによってそれらの神々しさ漂う美しさは、親近感を持った柔らかな美しさに色身を変えているように感じました。緊迫することなく身を任せリラックスできる優しい音楽だと思います。

全体として。
神懸かり的な完成度を誇る今までのアルバムに比べるとやや控えめな第一印象でしたが、世界を巡り様々な経験を積んだ彼らが再び帰り着いた故郷に感じた「安息の空気」と、その故郷を巡るツアーで手にした確かな「自信と誇り」が溢れていることに気付いたとき、私はこれまでにない感動をおぼえました。
ここに収められているのは、「Sigur Ros」という偉大なバンドがまたひとつ進化を遂げ、そしてこれから先も進化を続けていくということの、何よりも確かな証明なのだ、と。

まずHvarf。一曲目“Salka”がもう素晴らしい。あっという間に静謐な世界へ。５分から始まる１分間のクライマックスが恍惚の世界へ。EPとは言え、これぞシガーロスといった、静と動入り乱れる曲が満載。“Hljomalind”ではギターが鐘のように響く祝福ムード満点の作品。ヨーナス歌う歌う。“ Gr”はおとぎ話の世界に迷い込んでしまったかのような、怪しげなイントロ１分から、いきなり轟音が始まり、静けさの中ヨーナスがささやくように歌い……非常にドラマチックな６分間。オススメです。“Von”は言わずもがなシガーロス節満点の作品。ニューアルバムと言っても過言ではないハイ・クオリティな作品です。なんというか、“Hafsol”がまさに締めくくりの曲としてふさわしくて、コンセプチュアルに聴こえて……アルバム一枚を通して一冊のファンタジーを読んだような感じにされました。

Heimは既出の曲のライヴ盤。ライヴ盤というか、アレンジを変えてのライヴ録音です。どのアレンジも、やりすぎということなく、しっくりと新たな解釈を与えてくれます。個人的には元も素朴な名曲だった“Vaka”が、電子オルガン（？詳しくないのですが……）によってさらに素朴になった感じが大好きです。

EPはあまり買わないという人もいますが、これはシガーロスのファンなら必携の逸品です。

『Hvarf/Heim』は『Hvarf』と『Heim』というEPの2枚組で、『Hvarf』は未発表のスタジオ録音曲＋既出曲の別テイク、『Heim』は過去のアルバム収録曲のアコースティック・ヴァージョンを中心にした内容になっています。
フルアルバムでは、曲の流れが非常に重要な役割を果たしている彼らの作品ですが、本作は基本的に寄せ集めなので、どちらかというと１曲１曲の個性が際立ってる感じがします。ただ、流れも決して悪くないので、通しで聴き流すにも心地よいです。
また、『Hvarf』のM1はフルアルバムのオープニング・チューンにも使えそうな佳曲ですね。
