   エディ・ゴメス（B）は66年にビル・エヴァンス・トリオに参加。彼はエヴァンスとラファロが築き上げたスタイルをきっちり踏襲し、以後11年の長きにわたってエヴァンスの女房役をつとめる。ドラムスは、現代ジャズ界最高のドラマーであるジャック・デジョネット。エヴァンスより15歳ほど年下の、若手2人は本盤録音時点ではまだまだ無名。後にコンテンポラリー・ジャズ界を背負って立つ2人のはつらつとしたプレイと、それに刺激されいつになく力強いタッチのエヴァンス。

   さらに、世界有数のジャズ・フェスティヴァルでのライヴという付加価値が加わり、稀にみる名演が生まれた。ハイライトは愛奏曲<4>で、生涯で最もパワフルな演奏になっている。多くの名作ライヴ盤を生んだ同フェスティヴァル、その最初の名盤。ジャケット写真に写るのは、会場のすぐ近く、スイス・レマン湖のほとりに建つ古城。本作は「お城のエヴァンス」としてファンに親しまれる。（高木宏真）

ビルエヴァンス初のソロピアノアルバムがこの"Alone"だ。クレディットによると１９６８年の９月２３日、同年１０月８日、２１日の三日間に渡りニューヨークのウエッブスターホールで録音となっていいる。エヴァンスのソロピアノをたっぷりと楽しめる、ファンの間では既に名盤として名の通った作品だ。全曲がバラッドになっていて、内省的でリリカルなメロディが横溢している。後に彼自身の弁でも、「初めて自分自身が美しいピアノの音と一体になれた」と語っている程だ。特に最後の１５分に渡る"Never Let Me Go"が圧巻だ。さてそのような本盤の売りだが、６曲目から１２曲目のオルタネイトテイクが全て未発表曲となっている。但し、１２曲目はアローンが初ＣＤ化された時にボーナストラックとしてリリースされていた。問題は６曲目から１１曲目までの６曲で、本２００５年リイシューＣＤで世界初で発表されたものだ。といことはあの１８枚組ＣＤ"Complete Bill Evans On Verve"にも収録されていなかった"貴重な"オルタネイトテイクとなる。まずはあのBill Evans Albumでエレピを交えて演った"The Two Lonely People"の完アコ初テイクだ。この頃はまだ"The Man And Woman"というタイトルだったらしい。その他のオルタネイトテイクは、聞き比べると、マスターテイクには敵わない。だが、そこはエヴァンスらしく所々弾き方を変えているととこらがやはりミソといえる。そして、エヴァンスがこのAloneの制作に並々ならぬ意欲を持って望み、何度もテイクを取り直しながら("Midnight Mood"ではHelen Keeneの"Take Thirteen"との声が聞こえる)多くの時間を費やしていたことがわかる。

お城のジャケットにフランス語によるメンバー紹介。異国情緒が漂うスイスはモントレーのレマン湖畔でのライブ。エバンスのライブというと、Waltz For Deby と Sunday At Village Vanguardが有名だ。クラブの狭い空間でのしっとりとしたリリカルなピアノトリオもいいですが、野外のオープンスペースでの開放感を感じるこのライブもまた素晴らしい。Vanguardライブでのスコット・ラファロとポール・モチアンに替わって、エディ・ゴメス(Bass)とジャック・デジョネット(drums)が今回のアカンパニストとなる。ラファロに勝るとも劣らない雄弁でよくスゥイングするゴメスのベース。モチアンよりパワフルでドライブするデジョネットのドラムス。この両者に触発されエバンスが発止とした爽やかなピアノを聞かせる。ラファロ、モチアンとのライブ程の鬼気迫る緊張感には欠けるが、このトリオのゆるやかな一体感もまた絶妙だ。ベードラなしのバラードI Love You　Porgyでのエバンスのピアノソロは絶品。透明感溢れるピアノの音が湖面を流れる穏やかな空気に吸い込まれていく感じがとても素敵だ。不思議なことに、本盤でのゴメス、デジョネットのプレイがうるさいと感じる人がいるようだが、この二人が出しゃばってトリオのバランスを崩しているとは決して思えない。インタープレイとインプロビゼーションがジャズの売りものですので、そこんとこひとつよろしくお願いいたします。

ビルエバンズの中ではもっとも聴いた回数の多いCDです。
大学生の頃にこのアルバムと知り合って、４０歳になった今でも
一年に数回は聴いています。なんというか気合の入るといいますか、
エバンズのじっとりした暗さはあまりありませんが、まじめに聴ける
といいますか、なんともいいんですねコレが。

バーブなのにモゴモゴとしていない録音もいいですし。いいですよ！
