ボサ・ノヴァを語る時に、作曲家としても編曲家としても真っ先に挙げられるアントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンのステキな曲の数々を作曲家自らピアノとギターとで参加している名アルバムです。1963年5月ニューヨークでの収録ですが、その心地よい音楽は全く色褪せせずに半世紀近く経った今でも新鮮なままに伝わってきます。

トロンボーンのジミー・クリーヴランド、フルートとアルト・サックスのレオ・ライト、そしてクラウス・オガーマンのオーケストラによる演奏です。クラウス・オガーマンの編曲は見事です。ムード・ミュージックのようですが、実にさり気ない工夫が感じられる演奏でした。
勿論、これはカルロス・ジョビン作曲によるボサ・ノヴァの魅力を堪能するという意味合いを持つアルバムだと受け取っていますし、世界にボサ・ノヴァ・ブームをもたらした功績を称える意味でも価値あるアルバムが今も聴くことができることは素晴らしいですね。

シンコペーションを伴う独特のボサ・ノヴァの切れの良いリズムと、セブンスのコード進行が心地よさをもたらす曲の数々。今で言う癒し系サウンドですから、爽やかさに満ちています。「イパネマの娘」「おいしい水」「コルコヴァード」「ワン・ノート・サンバ」「デサフィナード」というボサ・ノヴァの名曲を聞きながら、60年代の音楽シーンを代表した音楽ジャンルを堪能してください。

リオ・デ・ジャネイロのガレオン空港が「アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビン国際空港」と改名されたという名作曲家の業績を称えて。

クラウス・オガーマンによるストリングス・ブラスのアレンジが冴えまくる。
曲はジョビンの代表曲ばかりだし、音は良いし、買って損無し！

あまりにも有名な一枚なので、何を書いても、いまさら。という事になるが、アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンはボサノヴァの名作曲家にして名演奏家だ。しかし、なによりすごいのは、ボサノヴァという今までなかったジャンルの音楽を創ったことだ。この６３年のアルバムが大ブレークして、今日まで、アメリカ人はもとより世界中の人々のボサノヴァ好きは続いているのだから、たいしたもんだ。クラウス・オーガーマン・オーケストラをバックにピアノとギターを弾くジョビン。もう何も言うことはありません。ボサノヴァファン必聴必携の一枚にして、ジャズファンも必聴必携の一枚。「あいててよかった」ではなく「持っててよかった。」一枚。（松本敏之）
