花の名。個人的にファーストインパクトがあったのは同時リリースの「メーデー」の方で、どっちかっつうとそちらの方が好きなのだけど、本作も繰り返し聴く度に曲が本来持つポテンシャルの深さをいつも思い知らせてくれるBUMPならではの名曲。初めは静かに暖かく、やがて壮大に世界観を広げていく珠玉の良作。
バンドアンサンブルの他に曲が重ねられていて、そこはBUMPとしては珍しいケースの曲かもしれない。バンドアンサンブルのみのバージョンは2008年現在、最新アルバムの「orbital period」に収録。聴き比べてみるのも一興。
ただ個人的には先にシングルバージョンを聴いたせいか、こちらの方がより壮大に感じられて好きです。

所で、他の方のレビューを読む限り何か勘違いしている人が居るようですが、本作は確かに「ALWAYS 続・三丁目の夕日」の為に書き下された曲ですが、歌詞自体は藤原基央さんが元々書き溜めていた詞の断片を繋ぎ合わせて熟考の末に作り上げたものであって、本作のラッシュなりを観た上で浮かんだものが反映されてる訳では無いです。
それにBUMPというバンドを良くご存知の方ならすぐに解る事ですが、本作「花の名」は如何にも映画の主題歌として作ろうとか、泣かせてやろうと思って書かれた曲ではないです。

BUMP OF CHICKENというバンドが、本来持つ能力をいつも通り発揮して産み出された曲です。

なので当然「昭和」の匂いを感じさせようなどという意図では作られていません。
大体、そんな事をわざわざするようなら、それはBUMPじゃない。

本作「花の名」はBUMPにしか奏でられない、BUMPによって初めて機能を成す曲。
他のいかなるミュージシャン、ボーカリストであっても、この曲を同じイメージのまま再現する事は出来ないと個人的には思います。

それが分からないと思ってる人は、とにかく何度も聴いてみて欲しい。
必ずBUMPにしか出来ないこの曲の深さに気付くはず。

それと、BUMP OF CHICKENはロックバンドではありません。

これは藤原さん自身がコメントしています。
本人曰く、もっと広いくくりで「『音楽』を奏でるバンド」なんです。それを踏まえて聴いてみれば、本作も含め、様々な曲に関しても納得いくでしょう?(笑)

カップリングの「東京賛歌」はタイトルから想像するイメージとは全く違う軽快なメロディと、藤原基央さんが笑顔でレコーディングに挑んだんじゃないかと思わせるような一際優しいボーカルで聴かせるこちらも名曲。恐らくBUMP初使用のハーモニカとのコラボレートも聴きどころです。

BUMP OF CHICKEN待望のNEWシングルは、有名映画「3丁目の夕日」の主題歌です。
監督が「涙のふるさと」のPVをつくった山崎監督(BUMPファン&スノースマイル)好きということなので、映画とマッチした名曲が期待できそうです。
ONE PIECE(映画)、テイルズオブジアビス(RPG)+BGM、人形劇ギルド、CMイメージソング…と以前とは大分メジャーになったBUMPですが、「商業主義に走った」とは思わないで欲しいです。彼らは昔と同じようにやりたいことをやってます。
…「世間で認められてきた」ってことじゃないでしょうか?

新しいツアーも決まり、シングルを出し、アルバムももうすぐ…
2007年〜2008年は飛躍の年になりそうです

　何の先入観もなく、FMでこの曲をはじめて聴いたときに、不覚に
も涙があふれてきました。暖かくて、哀しくて、そして力強い言葉
とボーカル。
　彼らよりもずいぶん歳をとった、僕にさえ訴えかけてきました。
世代を超えて受け入れられる名曲だと思います。
